Bet you didn't know that number is the total number of aircrafts coming and going at O'Hare flight operations.

Atlanta is second with 868,359..

That's a hellover lotta planes. and for some strange reason they hardly ever hit each other.

I'm happy to not live very close to O'hare.. I live just 2 miles from Midway though... fortunately we are not in the flight path.

I don't live near any commercial airport but I do live very near Luke AF base. I get to hear f-16 and now F-35 training flights routinely. We call it the sound of freedom.

O'Hare is our (United) largest hub, second to Denver. Atlanta had the most yearly takeoffs and landings until recently when O'Hare took back the number one spot. For pilots, getting in and out of O'Hare was never an issue. It was getting a gate that was an issue. Sometimes, in fact many times, we would either have to circle, which meant burning fuel, or sit or an apron. I did hear that they opened an eighth runway a few years back. Taking off from O'Hare in the middle of winter, if they were having snow squalls off of the lake could be challenging.

I remember taking off from O'Hare and was impressed with the number of planes maneuvering to take off...
