Police say the driver, Salvatore Mancuso, may have suffered a medical emergency before he lost control of his car. When Markisello and Brieske saw the car they jumped into the water and swam over to help.
"I just came out to here, threw my stuff on the ground and took off," says Brieske.
The men knew they had to act fast.
"I started shouting," says Brieske, "I need a hammer. I need something to break this window so I can get in and pull him out."
Cell phone video of the rescue shows it took Brieske several strikes before the hammer broke the window.
"He (Brieske) unchecked his (Mancuso's) seat buckle and I got the seat out of the way for him and he handed him to me and we both brought him up," says Markisello.
The 92-year-old man was unconscious.
"I was doing chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth," says Brieske.
Emergency crews arrived a few moments later.
Mancuso is now hospitalized in critical condition.
