A bird in the hand

Grampa Don

Yep, that's me
Yesterday just as the Sun was going down, a hummingbird flew into my hobby room in the garage. It was zip zip zip back and forth but not back out the door. So, what to do? I tried to shoo it in the right direction, but that didn’t work. And, it’s pretty hard to catch a hummingbird. I just watched it hoping it would find the way out. Eventually, it collapsed on my workbench. I was afraid it was dead. I scooped it up In my hand and it was limp.

Have you ever held a hummingbird? It’s like holding a dust bunny. They don’t weigh anything. I took it outside and laid it in a hanging basket on the patio. A few minutes later I came back and it was gone. Apparently, it had just been in some kind of coma. I hope it will remember to stay out of my garage.

Poor little thing was exhausted. So glad you saved it Don.

Have had hummingbirds crash into windows .
We usually have humming bird syrup made ahead.
Will put small bit in bowl use an eye doper to put drips on the humming bird's beak.
Soon you will see its tongue zip out for a taste or two.

I've stood still near the feeders & have had them walk on my fingers.

You can hardly feel them walking on your finger.

So very neat.

I held a hummingbird for a minute.
Several years ago, I heard my Yellow Lab barking furiously at the living room window. I saw a hummingbird hitting the window, trying to get out & my dog wanted a snack. Luckily, there was a ledge in front of that window, so my dog couldn't reach him; besides, he was flying too high.
I quickly grabbed him & took him outside - with my dog jumping, trying to get him. :ROFLMAO:

I was sitting on the front porch of a place we used to have up north just looking at the river going by. A peaceful setting.
Then, I saw 2 birds flying towards each other right in front of me. By the time I thought, "They're not going to crash right into each other, are they?", they did. 😱
The one coming from the left dropped straight down to the ground. The one coming from the right fumbled around a little in the air, recovered, and flew off. Then, the one on the ground flew away after him.
Birds are tougher than they look. 🤔

I can do a few common bird calls and baby bird chirps. Came in real handy early one morning when I was helping a cousin set up his new convenience store and we walked in and saw a female Southern California House-Finch flitting around in a panic. Soon as it settled on a window sill I chirped like a baby finch and it immediately flew to me and lit on my chest, where it hung on for dear life until I stepped outside.

My cousin was absolutely dumbfolded. 🤪
