A Boatman Fly

Grampa Don

Yep, that's me
I've been playing around trying to take pictures of tiny insects through my microscope. This one came out pretty good, so I thought I'd share it.

This little guy is only about 3mm from head to tail. It's called a boatman fly because when it's at rest it constantly moves its wings like rowing a boat. It's originally from Australia, but made it to California in the early '60s. It's not really a pest. It's just looking for dog poop.
