A Bright Way To Start The New Year

There was a time when my house was full of plants. I had them in almost every room, and they grew and thrived. Then something changed, and they all died.

Now, whenever I bring home a new plant, I feel like it has a death sentence on it.

None the less, I was inspired to buy an Amaryllis bulb. I have never had one before, and I was hopeful that I wouldn't kill it.....at least not right away.

When I brought it home, a few weeks ago, it was nothing more than a "stub in a pot".

This is what it looked like last week.....

As you can see, I haven't killed in yet, it's still alive and well!

I'm hoping that my Amaryllis is a sign of good things for the new year. Today, it looks like this....

I gave up on houseplants.

In the winter months, economizing on heat ended up making them unhappy. Nearby trees are so large now that I don't get the sunshine like I used to either, just certain times of day get bright.

Amaryllis might work out ok though.

Not including the Amaryllis, I am down to only 3 house plants....and one of those is looking rather bad.

I used to have so many!!! I had vines that went from room to room. I must have had about 30 Africa Violets. I had a rare bagonia plant that was about 4 ft across, with leaves that were about 18 inches long. There were several Christmas cactus plants, too. There were so many others, I can't even list them all!

And now, I can hardly keep my Mother in-laws tongue alive!
