A close call at the grocery checkout

I have checking and savings... different bank from the main accounts... debit card is on the savings account. I transfer from checking to savings online often so that there's never any more on the debit than I'd be okay with having to go through hoops to get it back... so not really much of a risk. I'd get an alert if anyone uses it, but there's never a lot on it. When I have bills to pay, I transfer.
My debit card is on my current account..my savings account is the one I use mainly for DD's...or standing orders

Oh thank goodness! :ROFLMAO:

A few years ago, I went on a trip to New York for 10 days... unpacked at the hotel to find I hadn't packed any pants. None. Extra shoes, extra tops, extra socks, but no steekin' pants. Good excuse to have to shop 😁 but lesson learned about triple checking. Yeah, triple... 'cause this girl had already double checked before leaving.
My grandmother told the story that she strode briskly to work one morning in downtown Anchorage, swinging her arms in a healthy stride. When she reached the office, she found she was carrying, not the scarf she thought she had, but a pair of panties.

In Canada, Courtesy clerks offer support to customers. . This may involve answering questions, assisting customers with their purchases, and bagging. They stock shelves, collect shopping carts, interact with customers. There is a separate customer service desk to handle returns.

Try this routine before you leave the house...Check back pocket for wallet, check front left pocket for truck keys, check front right pocket for phone. Check face for glasses. All OK, catty on.
This is what i keep telling people, make the power of habit work FOR you! You can develop new ones as needed, just figure out what will work best for you whether it's about getting the regular chores done, taking meds or having everything you might need when leaving the house.

I find a 'staging' area near door helpful. Since my eye surgeries in 2014 i don't need my glasses every waking hour, so they are usually in case by where i sleep. But on days when i know i will definitely be driving somewhere i have been hanging them (i have strap attached so easier to take them off in stores to read labels) by my purse by door. Keys there too and hats (protecting eyes from UV rays to help slow recurrence of eye disease that prompted the surgeries).

The only place I use my debit card is the grocery store because they don’t take credit cards. People put skimmers on machines to steal your information especially outside at gas station pumps. I will also use my bank atm.

When I travel I take 2 CC’s with me and leave 2 home for the dog sitter to use at the vet in an emergency. The only people that live in my house to watch my dogs are trusted friends. I can’t imagine not having a credit card.

Cash is nice we only carry a couple of hundred in case for whatever crazy reason a business wouldn't accept a credit card or our debit card. Cash works at the grocery store for playing slot machines credit cards don't.
Reading the post #11 by Deb about ATM theft I'm going to have to check on why we are limited to only 2k max with drawl.

I have never trusted debit cards. I have 2 credit cards from different banks.
Wallet always goes in the left front pocket, it is the most difficult for pickpockets to pilfer. Keys go in the right front pocket. The ignition switch is on the right side of the steering column.

would you not find it easier to keep a spare pair in the car ? I do that. I always wear sunglasses during the day outside.. but occasionally I find myself out after dark, the sunglasses are no use then.. so I got into the habit of just keeping a spare pair of distance glasses in the glove...

Perhaps you can stash a small amount of cash somewhere in your car for emergencies. I have found it helpful. Of course, you have to remember to replace it once you’ve used it.

Right now my spare pair is actually in glove box but its 2years old so i use them only if have to go out unexpectedly and forget to grab the other pair. Come Sept i'll be moving current pair there and have new pair.
