A dragonfly I rescued

I went out on the porch where I have buckets of rainwater to water houseplants and discovered a large (about 2" long) dragonfly drowning in one pail. I scooped it out and it rested on the edge of the pail for about an hour, then disappeared.

I attempted an insect ID online and It may have been a black darner.

The only things I deliberately kill are flies and mosquitoes.

When I was fishing in Florida a couple of weeks ago we got descended on by a small flock of dragonflies. We were fishing overnight ~100 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. No idea what they were doing out there, first time I can remember seeing something like that.
