"A dream come true": Foster child gets his fairytale ending....

It was summer 2019 in Aurora, Colorado, when CBS News first met middle school math teacher, Finn Lanning, and Damien, the student he just couldn't shake.

Damien says Lanning was definitely one of his better teachers. "When a teacher doesn't bother me over and over again, that's better," he said. "Like leave me alone, I'll leave you alone, I'll get my work done."

While I was still flying, I had the privilege to have two young children in the cockpit with me on non stop flights through the Make A Wish Foundation. Both children had incurable cancer and asked to be able to fly in a plane while seated in the cockpit.

I was made aware of the trips a day before, so I was able to secure for each of them a pair of gold wings and a cap. The flight attendants also serviced them with anything they wanted. Both children were extremely excited before takeoff. The two trips were identical flying from Washington, D.C. (Dulles International) to Los Angeles where they were met by one of their parents who were seated in first class. They were also given hotel accommodations and a trip home.

I took both of them over the Grand Canyon, which they enjoyed. They asked a lot of questions about flying and the plane’s controls, which was a Boeing 767. Both trips were very special for the entire flight crew. We loved it when children were allowed in the cockpit.
