A home owner in Florida had their driveway stolen in some type of scam. Apparently unsolicited contractors were coming buy and taking measurements then one day it was dug up and taken away. One contractor said he made a mistake taking measurements at the wrong address but driveway still taken after. Witness said at least 5 contractors came by for measurements. House also up for sale and owner had other work done.

Single mother’s future in jeopardy after thief steals driveway

Sounds like a contractor trying to force unwanted work ie make a problem and then sell the solution.

I've seen pushy contractors solicited or unsolicited but this is criminal.

It sure is a weird story. Whoever does pave the driveway, I hope it’s not one of the scammers.

"ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE: After hearing about this situation, a Cox Media Group radio sponsor has offered to install a new driveway at no cost to the homeowner. The homeowner plans to donate the GoFundMe money to a local nonprofit in coordination with 9 Family Connection."

I believe that it was a bad company who stole it.

This was on YouTube a few days ago and there you can see
a machine digging it up, the day after the drive was taken, a
company who does drives, phoned and offered to instal a new
one for $10,000.

This event all happened the day after a "For Sale" sign was put up.

My brother was a carpenter. He was commissioned to design and build a fence, and elaborate gate for a country home. After it was complete and put in place, he was paid and all was good. The next morning, he got a call - the gate was gone. Stolen. We're talking a relatively remote location. People will steal anything!

This just doesn't pass the smell test. If your ring cam shows someone tearing out your driveway, why wouldn't you call the police first thing. No... I'll wait until I get home to do something.
After looking at the before picture of that cracked, weed choked driveway, my feeling is getting a go fund me to re-do was brilliant. To say nothing about increasing the possibility of a faster sale.
Nothing like a nice new spiffy driveway for that "curb appeal".
