A flower a day ...

Are they some type of dog rose? We have them growing wild around where we live. We have been snitching some from the road ditches and transplanting them to our front and back lawn.
No they are drift roses. Don’t get very high, bloom for a long time. This one starts out peach and as it opens, it turns more pink

The dog rose is a climbing rose
Rosa canina, the dog rose, is a variable climbing, rose species

Oh I didn’t know anything about that. I mostly just know which roses appeal to me for scent, color or healthiness. When I started getting interested in a wider range of plants is when I was paying more attention but the roses were from an earlier time in my ‘education’ about plants.

I found my pear tree I only planted 6 months ago in bloom yesterday
I planted this young tree in Oct ( spring in Australia ) it bloomed and produced 3 pears In early summer
Now it’s flowering again at the end of summer ,and will loose its leaves going into Autumn …..I find it a bit odd
flowering late summer ( it’s got lots of flowers )

Taken today

Reminds me of gingers I've seen in Hawaii.

Here we are nearing the Spring Equinox and just had Daylight Savings start up again today. So I guess you are approaching autumn down under. Here is one flower I saw at the nearby Blake Garden in Kensington, California this past Tuesday. I think these are deservedly treasured where winters are longer and more severe. Snowdrops is what I've heard them called.

Yep, we certainly are, and I am so looking forward to it.

Too late to fix the original post but the species I’m growing is Tulipa bakeri.

It comes from Greece and Turkey and is especially prevalent on Crete.

I believe this is taken somewhere it occurs naturally but the caption is Greek to me. 😉

Ok these aren’t flowers per se but the colors are so vibrant!

I think it’s called American Beauty

Love the color. Think I’ve heard of it but can’t remember seeing it. Maybe an east coast thing?

I grow something called Beauty Bush which I think is more often seen on the east coast too. I’ll post a picture when it blooms. Right now new foliage is just coming out.

I picked up a couple of young Cone Bushes, Leucadendron discolor 'Pom Pom' for you Latin speakers, about five years ago. This year one of them has begun to bloom. I believe the flowers are itty bitty things on the cone itself but the color of the foliage often sells the plant. I sure like the orange center.

These very rare flowers are only found in one area in the world – the Mid-West! Travel 32 km east from Coorow on Coorow Latham Rd, then take a somewhat inconspicuous left onto Williams Rd (the sign partially hidden). Proceed 550 m and turn left onto a bush track, just before the windmill. After 100 m on the track, you’ll reach a gravel pit. Wreath flowers can be spotted in the car park area, but for a more abundant display, venture behind the prominent gravel bank to the left.

I'd feel very special to behold such a sight.
