A Hit And Run Driver Ran Into My Son's Car When He Was Going To Work

Thank God, he was not injured at all and was able to get to work on time. He left a little early at about 3:15 a.m. (he usually leaves a half hour later). He said the driver came barreling out of the UPS employee parking lot and it was too late for my son to stop. Yesterday morning it was icy. My son is a trucker and handles 18 wheelerss in all kinds of weather. He's gotten safe driving certificates from J.B. Hunt for about 8 years in a row.

He's also posted on Facebook periodically about how to drive safely in bad weather. The driver may think he got away with something, but my son got his plate number and called the police, who came to the scene and wrote up a report. I just hope my son doesn't have to come out of his pocket for any part of the repairs.

How horrible, thank God your son is okay 🙏, and has the guy's number plate.
I hope all goes well with the insurance.

The guy that left the scene is in a lot of trouble. If the car was stolen your son is good.

Lucky it was only a glancing blow.
Let's hope that the driver is identified and receives just punishment

There are so many uninsured drivers in Detroit that for decades we've had No Fault auto insurance. Prior to that things ended in expensive litigation that often ended with the person at fault pleading "poverty" and leaving you with nothing but legal bills and no money for your repairs.

There are scammy ways drivers can get away with no insurance using legal loopholes well known within the lore of the hood. One of these is abuse of insurance binders, often peddled for cheap by shifty low-ball insurance companies.

Well-off bad drivers, generally kids, benefit by having lower insurance rates than they should.

In the end the feeling is that what we've ended up with is "Always Your Fault" insurance.

If justice is not served then we can visit the perpetrator to slash her tires and pour sugar into her gas tank.

Sorry! That's terrible.

I'm glad your son didn't get hurt! Accidents are such a hassle getting the insurance people to look at the vehicle and then being without a car (hopefully with a rental) while repairs are done.

That's great that he got the license plate number so the responsible party can be the one to pay.

@Jules My son didn't get any bumps or bruises. He is not feeling any residual effects, thank God. As far as "his head swimming"...my grandmother used to say about him "He's so unconcerned". That did not mean that he doesn't care about anything....he just doesn't let things rattle him. Even when his youngest son got hit by a car and was literally thrown into the air, when he picked me up to meet the ambulance at the hospital, he was so calm that it assuaged my fears about the worst. Blessedly, my grandson survived, but I do think his subsequent chronic pains are at least in part residual effects of that accident.

@RadishRose and @dilettante I thought about the possibility that the driver doesn't have insurance and am hoping that is not the case. However, N.J. does have no fault insurance. My son says they do charge extra for that and he believes he did pay for that coverage, but he has to check.

@Inept Yeah...or pour Coke or Pepsi on the car's hood. I've heard of people doing that because it supposedly eats up the paint. Yeah...No! Don't think my son will be trying those shenanigans at 3:30 in the morning. :ROFLMAO:

Tell him to heat it up first and do it at midnight instead. :) Or scratch the windshield right in front of where the driver sits so the rain will make it really irritating, even worse with the windshield wipers on.
