A house where I used to deliver meals burned down

I saw it when I had to pass by the location. It's completely leveled now. There was a car parked not far from the house. On the side away from the fire, it looks okay, but the side that was toward the fire is burnt to a crisp. The man that lived there passed away 7 years ago and the house was vacant and dilapidated. A picture of it before (no car there then) and during the fire. Fire photos are from the department's FB page.

I looked it up on the county tax database and the person that now owns it lives in Albany. I thought maybe the family still owned it. There are no residential homes near it and just a couple of dilapidated barns on the lot which look unscathed. It's surrounded by vacant fields. It used to be a working farm.

hmmm...old vacant houses don't usually burn down on their own unless there was a lightening strike. Since that wasn't found to be the case then there is a possibility that someone set fire to it on purpose...like to get rid of an eyesore or to collect insurance, or other. What about the car that was parked there? What's the story with that?

I’m totally kidding. Maybe….probably inappropriate but it doesn’t sound like anyone gone hurt in the fire. Maybe the neighbours got sick of looking at it. Maybe whoever owes it can now make a claim and sell the land.

Meals delivery! I remember, Mother upon reaching 65 was approached by the "Meals-On-Wheels" delivery service. From 1983 until 1997. She accompanied the driver and distributed an average of 25 meals daily, between 11am and 1pm.

It kept her busy during her retirement years as well.

I'd say arson would be the cause of maybe an insurance fraud... Who knows? However, one of the writers above said: "Unless a lightning bolt hit during a storm..." We've to assume the worst case scenario.

Maybe that was the plan all along...if it wasn't worth restoring and the previous owner didn't want to live there then it would make sense to remove it. I guess in the country you can do a control-burn without being a problem for far off neighbors. The area looks like beautiful countryside. The owner will have no trouble selling it.
