A lady in a wheelchair asking for money outside McDonalds

So sad to see this happening.
One wonders what keeps these people going. Obviously not enough money to feed herself. Though the only way to know her story is to get to know her life story and what got her to that stage.
Government services seems to be not meeting her needs.
Yes, the other side of the story is that she could be wasting her money on booze and other stuff.
I periodically give to homeless people though I can not give to everyone that I come across.
What would you do if you became homeless. Would you sit outside a supermarket and ask passersby for help?
When I was homeless I never begged. I kept my dignity. I used the services available to have one meal a day and went far away from the crowd.
I slept in a tent in the bush where there were no other people and there was no chance of being disturbed or harassed.
Would I do that today? Lose my job, become homeless?
Having thought about it for a long time I think I would clock out. Go out into the bush, never to be seen again.

Sometimes I give money, but they get govt money here and there are drugaddicts and those who fake it and are filthy rich.

An older man who wasn't even in front of the grocery store and didn't ask, I gave him money and he was very grateful. He had slept outside a few times. He was not on drugs. I read that the ones who are not on drugs get no automatic place to stay like the ones who are, because they are able to take care of themselves. What? What kind of craziness is that? How completely unfair.

But lately I saw a girl sitting, talking to her mom, sat on a chair, happily greeting you while on a fancy phone. Bye. I think she looked better dressed than me. I don't trust that.

I would collect plastic bottles from garbage cans to get money for them or bring back carts.

My ex once said that God said he had to call an old friend he hadn't contacted in years. He called. Guy just got thrown out of his house with all his stuff cause he hadn't been able to pay rent. He picked him up and he stayed with us. I cooked. He said LOL he's Indonesian. He said: I'll cook from now on. A polite way to say my bland Dutch food sucked. Fabulous. Great cook. Every day I got delicious food. He taught me some recepies. 6 months later he got a small cheap senior house. He was 68 then. Then there was no housing shortage yet.

A kind and marvelous thing to do for that man.

So many people by my workplace they actually have a schedule on one corner.... most only want money even though some people are willing to give them food instead. too many are IMO fake
a young man about 20 bring his grandpa out and set up with sign while grandson sat in a car scrolling on phone. A family using kids as props and the group of druggies living in a car nearby Narcan empties in the street.
Nope I will not even make eye contact with any of them. about a 1/2 mile away a guy who walks around with a blanket who sits by busy street and tries to jump out in front of cars hoping to get hit and sue, I am sure. If I see him, I will drive out of my way to avoid him.

Now hiring signs all over in area they want to live like this.

I won't give money but if they are outside the grocery and look like they really need help I will buy them a little food. Things like peanut butter, jelly, tuna packs, crackers, things that won't spoil if they are homeless.

They also very much appreciate a couple of rolls of toilet paper, toothbrushes and paste. A bar of soap or one of those body washes that can be used for everything.

"....What would you do if you became homeless....".
It is beyond my imagination to think of myself in that situation. I have no idea what I would do.
