It's not bad enough that the docs & the hospitals overcharge as they do......Now, I receive a letter telling me that March 30th is doctors day. And they would like me to donate to the hospital on or near that date, so the doctors know how they are appreciated !!!...HUH ?

This thing is complete with a donation form, suggesting $25-$500. The doctor that is noted in the mailing will receive a dish of 'Lifesavers' [get it] candies with my name [not the amount] noted .

What the hell?? I never heard of anything so outrageous.

Aww go ahead and send the $500.00. :):playful::eek:nthego:

Lifesavers not just for doctors.

During WWII the Armed Forces packed some 23 million boxes' worth of Life Savers into soldiers’ ration kits as a sweet taste of home. To keep the mints in high production during this period, other candy manufacturers donated their sugar rations to the company.

Neat bit of history , I didn't know that.......:)

OK guys...../what about the support staff? Without them, the docs wouldn’t be anything. Worked in healthcare 30+ years, docs aren’t gods! It takes a team.

I would support the staff.....nurses, domestic...etc. But I still wouldn't donate to the hospital, in the name of a nurse. I'd rather donate to a 'pool'? that the nurse(s) benefit directly from.

Send them on a paid R&R , cruise, some nice resort, etc.

I agree hospitals are businesses and IMO should be treated like businesses.

Just from reading the OP’s post, I am thinking that this may be a roundabout way of having a fundraiser. We have a not for profit hospital near us and twice a year they do a fundraiser to raise funds to buy new equipment or do updates to the building.

It’s really just a hospital to treat emergencies or triage patients before sending them to a larger facility.

That's exactly what it is, except that this IS a for profit hospital, a huge one ! A famous one as well.
