A Little Slice of History

Queen Anne of Roumania has just died, she was a Bourbon-Parma, one of the really ancient houses of Europe.

Kept out of the country by the communists, and refused permission to marry a non-Catholic by the Pope (a really Christian attitude I must say), her breeding told, and she remained a charming and delightful lady all her life.

This is of absolutely no interest to anyone except those who, like me, find these little asides of history fascinating!

Me too usually. I recently read-up on the progress of shipyard-building on Zambia's Lake Tanganyika, to replace the passenger-steamer from the movie, The African Queen, which is still in use, doing her duties... The owners have to build a shipyard so they can construct a replacement ship.

In the movie, the ship is the Königin Luise. -German for, Queen Louise (or Louisa)... of Prussia.

And I ended-up reading in-depth about her. And the Mecklenburg-Strelitz line. I forgot about Lake Tanganyika. Ya gotta love History...
