A Massachusetts Couple Donated a Can of Campbell's Soup to Charity

But it was one of those fake cans that people buy to hide things in, so they lost $2500 in cash. Now they're hoping that whoever finds it returns it, or helps someone else with it. Do you think they'll get it back?
 

No, I don't think they'll get it back. But I'm confused - did they hide $2500 in the can and forget, or did they get the can from someplace else?
 
I'd probably kill myself. Or at least want to. :( I feel really sorry for that senior retired couple.
 

Makes me wonder if one was hiding it from the other. Otherwise, why wasn't it in the bank?

Also have to consider if this isn't a way to get someone to open a Go Fund Me account.

Now that's cynical of me.

A lot of people keep some cash on hand in the house for emergencies, if there was a major snowstorm and the power was done for any length of time, people wouldn't be able to access their money from the bank or an ATM machine. Most have a safe at home to put the extra money in, but if you don't have one, you use items like this to hide the cash.....but you better have a good memory so this doesn't happen.

I hope you're right Mizzkitt. If someone returned that money to me, I'd give them some kind of cash reward for their honesty.

But if it was a donation of canned food, a soup that they donated costing maybe $2, wouldn't it have been an obvious mistake with all that money and not a real can of soup?
 
I would think that the soup "cash can" would weight MUCH less than a regular can of tomato soup. As soon as anyone picked it up they should be able to tell that something was not right. Looking on the bright side, people who get food at a charity food bank are desperately in need.
If the people who end up with the can of cash have little kids, I hope that they spend it on food and clothes for the kids. Just imagine some poor woman fighting for survival of her family, and discovering "manna from heaven".

Olivia, I got the impression the couple had saved this money together and I have not seen anything to indicate they are looking for anyone to fund them. At least it was not indicated by the daughter who spoke about it. I got the impression this couple isn't computer savvy enough to do that on their own. Geesh...you are cynical !!
Mizzkitt: I doubt they'll ever get it back. It was too long before they discovered what they'd done and who knows who that can was distributed to. Somebody poor enough to need help from a food bank probably saw it as a windfall and kept the money.

I never in any way said that they are. What I ASSUME is that since it was "donated to CHARITY," it would be received by a poor person. I doubt any well-to-do people are receiving donated food, but I suppose it could happen.

If one of their friends or relatives will start a "go fund me" page...
they might get back more than double what they lost.
 
It's gone for good, why I use pretty jars and store them in my sock drawer.I can tell the difference between a pair of socks and a small jar of silver coins, so no problem here. I save all my change.
