Heres a new sneaky scam. I got two calls on my cell from a bank I dont use. Second one they left a voice message saying I had a fraudulent charge from Game Stop and I need to call xxx number. I have never ever had any dealings with this bank.

I never engage from any number that calls me. Im curious so I look up the banks number and the number that called me is the same number as that bank. But. Heres the sneaky part. That different call back number. If I used this bank I would think this is a legit call since the numbers match.
Who know what shady dealings I could have been caught up in if I called that extra number.

I called that bank to make them aware that their number is being spoofed so they can send a notice to their real customers. Thats all I can do. :D

Well also do you even have dealings with Game Stop?

Well done and thanks for the heads up!

I never respond to anything -even if it looks legitimate... if it's from my bank, I call my bank at the number I have, not the number in the text. I never click on links etc. It's super scary now days, how they can get you!!!!

People call my husband's phone a lot, because he uses it for business - and they are always trying to get him to say "Yes" ... and I've heard, you never want to do that. So many scammers out there. :(

I once had a spam phone call, and the number that displayed on my Caller ID was the phone number for the plumber I use. He would not call me unless I called him first, so I called him back and told him I had a call from his number. He knew nothing about it.

"Caller ID spoofing" is when the caller makes a valid phone number appear on Caller ID. Unfortunately, Caller ID is not a reliable way to verify a caller's identity anymore, but it's all we have.

Never. I looked them up. Not my thing.

Your husband probably cant do this but after I learned about that yes thing I dont answer any more I just let it go to voice mail.
Sometimes so they dont clog my voice mail I pick up but dont say anything. If its a telemarketer it will be silent and then you
will hear the click where they try to switch you to a real person. Thats when I hang up. If its a legit call the other person will start talking.

Youre right you cant trust caller id anymore. Ive got calls that showed up as my phone number.

I'm confused by this part...

You say the numbers match but then said the number was different??

Anyway, smart of you to be aware and to notify the bank. And thank you for making us aware.

Sorry I wasnt clear.
When I looked up the banks number it was the same number as the number that showed up on my cell.

The sneaky part was that in their message they asked me to call back on a totally different number.
This number was NOT the same as the banks number.

If I did business with that bank I might have considered this a legit call since the banks number matched the one that called me.
Obviously theyre spoofing the banks number. Who knows what would have happened if I called that number in the message.

Im naturally suspicious of all calls now since there are so many scams and spammers. You cant even trust caller id due to spoofing.
Hopefully it will slow them down if we all share with each other and report what we can .

Right now the biggest scam is people reading your real SSN back to you and asking you to verify it.

Hang up the phone. Do not engage at all. They want you saying your SSN in your voice, or affirming that it is your SSN.

How they got these SSNs comes too close to politics to bring up on this forum, but a quick google of "social security numbers unauthorized cloud storage" will tell you the story.

Dammit! You had to go and ruin everything didn't you? :ROFLMAO:

In Australia we have scam watch to report attempted scams to , and they in turn send out a newsletter keeping us up to date on scams doing the rounds .

I got scam emails X 3 from a scammer about 3 months ago, they claimed they were Norton computer security ,so i forwarded them onto Norton …..

well who ever opened my email to was furious…to say the least ….he returned an email to me vowing to track the scammers down and asking if I’d forward on any further messages ….Ive never had another Norton scam ….so far …so good …..

Anyone watch Thelma on Netflix ? It’s worth watching ….
