A Nice Walk ( with photos )

Hey Mark,
I would be terrified of our dogs going down such steep cliffs. Is Heidi a German Shepherd? We had 2 German Shepherds before getting the smaller varieties. We didn’t have them both at the same time though.

Those are beautiful pictures Mark. You live in such a nice area. What are those red and green plants growing? Are they cactus?

I’ve fallen 4 times since having my ebike and I’ve only had it for 2 weeks so far. I know that in the next few days I’m going to have a huge bruise on my forearm. I really whacked myself and I wasn’t even riding at the time.

Not sure why posts on this thread are not showing up in alerts. They always used to. But I'm glad I looked it up. Nice photos @PeppermintPatty but like Hawk and others have said, please no more falling. I'm intrigued by electric bikes but for that very reason I don't ride bikes now. It has been too long and my coordination and balance aren't as foolproof as they used to be.

I needed a couple of old photos for a letter I was writing yesterday and in my search for those I found some nicer photos than I get these days. For one thing I used to do more ambitious hikes and for another I used to get up at the a**crack of dawn to beat traffic and morning light if my favorite. Here are a few from that search taken at Fort Funston beach in San Francisco.

Smokey waiting for me along the steep path down to a lower level. This one was taken in the afternoon.

The sun hasn't quite cleared the higher cliffs in the shot along an intermediate level.

Very early morning along the beach.

The vertical rock along the skyline has fallen recently in big storms which have greatly eroded the cliffs too.

Beautiful photos @MarkD !

Have you ever tried making / comsuming your own milk kefir @PeppermintPatty I've read up on allot of the benefits of looking after our second “ brain” ….being our…Gut …

I got into it after suffering horrendous pain from Diverticulosis attacks
since I’ve been consuming kefir I’ve not had one single attack …..but I swear by home made in preference to shop bought ( milk kefir ) not keen on the water variety ….
I believe the shop milk kefir is made with a powdered form of probiotic ..rather then the fermented type I make

Read this woman’s story ( she owns the site )
I’ve got 3 books she published ….i make a few cultured foods in summer but generally not in winter

and how cultured foods changed her moods / depression
Welcome To Cultured Food Life!
I like kefir but not all the time. I have to have a yen. 🙂

Small world. We started a sourdough starter 3 days ago. It is fun to watch it grow. I hope this will improve our microbiomes. I have chronic GERD, and we hoping this will help. What do you think, is this a good idea. I googled it, and the answer seemed like there is a good possibility it will?
I had some fails with sourdough but once you get a good starter going its just a routine.
I make a loaf about every Sunday morning.

Can you elaborate on the starter ?
I know Costco sells a kambusha. I’m pretty sure I got some and think it got all mouldy.
I signed up? What questions should I be asking? Where does Donna live? Is she in Australia?

I bought a kefir mother at the health food store but didn’t known what to do with it so eventually threw it out. I’d love to make kefir again. I DO believe it would really help you @Peco Dennis. It’s recommended for healing the stomach. Hopefully my husband will get into it too. Where do you suggest we purchase our Kefir from @Kadee? I’m excited about this. I think it’s something that we could use for our internal health.
I don’t mean the brewed tea

I’m not referring to kombuncha which is a brew with a tea base ….its usualy sold in cans and bottles in supermarkets …yep I gave that a try as well …it’s made with a scoby ..slimy looking thing that floats in the brews for making it into a good drink as well , however it gave me heartburn ❤️‍🔥.

What i was referring to in previous posts is MILK kefir @PeppermintPatty
Which can be bought in supermarkets ( Fresh milk section ) (for about $10 for a ltr )

MILK kefir can be made using a powdered for of probiotic that you have to keep Buying everytime you want to make a batch:( ……

or get Live kefir “grains“ it looks allot like rubbery little bits of cauliflower ..it’s a once off purchase(y)

The grains grow while fermenting your MILK … so you can seperate them to the amount you need according to the amount of milk you’re using ….( I freeze any excess grains in a little jar of milk )

I looked on gumtree for mine and got them for $00 … I think Gumtree is very similar to a free advertising site like you have in US ..or wherever ….it can be a minefield for scammers ….

Heath food shops sell the “live grains “

I bought the first scoby for making the TEA ……,brew on eBay but I’m not sure if they have kefir grains as well.

Watch Donna’s video ..how to make MILK .. Kefir.

All I can say by making / consuming the milk kefir changed my life from pain everyday ….to no pain at all
On the side of CAUTION …..consuming Kefir can give you a gut ache ..good clean out for a day or two when you first start …but it’s only a day or two …

Heidi was part German Shepherd and part Australian Cattle Dog at least but I adopted her and never did a genetic test.

That is the succulent you can never evict, Ice Plant. Obviously it gets no watering here but fog occurs pretty much daily so it looks better than it does some places. I love it when it gets stressed red as some other succulents do as well.

When I read Atul Gawande's Being Mortal I was impressed when he said falling is the way most of us will leave this life. I believe it. My body was nearly self righting in my youth but I've fallen when rushing about now so I don't expect any help from my old body in recovering from mistakes in judgement any longer.

@MarkD - Heidi is a beautiful dog. Australian Cattle Dogs are gorgeous dogs too. I’ve seen some of those with 2 different coloured eyes.

The succulent I was talking about looks different than the pictures you showed.

Falling is the way we’ll leave this life?
I’m getting worried about biking now. The bike my husband is now riding was my first ebike. I wiped out on that bike also. This new bike is much smaller but doesn’t have the fat knobby tires that most e-bikes have. I’ve broken both sides of my collar bone biking and my brother has broken his pelvis.

I’m wondering if I don’t have the balance to ride an ebike. I feel bad. My husband isn’t too pleased with me know. We spent $3,000 on getting another bike and dog trailer.

I've seen some two seaters. Not cheap either but perhaps his balance and strength could help?

I know it’s not the tea you are referring too. I know it’s a yogurty type drink. Ive read a lot of good things about it.

Thanks for all the info. You got your grains free? I wonder if the health food store sells them. I’ll call up tomorrow about them and find out.

My husband going to bed now so I’ll watch the video.

I’d say so @PeppermintPatty they are sold in a vacuum pack at the health food store where I do shopping, seen them this morning when I went in to buy a pack of Green living vegetable culture to do some cultured veggies as soon as it warms up here

Probiotic Culture for Fermented Vegetables, Juices & Yoghurt - 100 litres/kgs

Hey Pattie …I luv this thread :love:is so so relaxing …we post what we want to chat about ……

Hey @PeppermintPatty I took a photo of my nice healthy looking Silver Beet today before I picked it ….I'm planning on making my SB mini triangles / squares what ever I decide , I’ve already got the needed bits a pieces outta freezer ..being vacuumed packed grated cheese / 1 rasher of bacon ..I pulled 4-5 Spring onions ( in winter 😀)
out my of garden to use as well….they still grow well during winter ….

I precook the onions / bacon before… adding to cooked SB then add the cheese ..all mixed together …

No nasties ( poison's) on any veggies I grow either

Whenever you make them is fine enough by me. I’m in no hurry to see them.

Yesterday we picked a bunch of peppers. They are currently in the fridge. We are making some more relish and probably some tomato sauce.

Those are quite tall for Aloe. I only grow one that could be considered a tree aloe and never knew the species.

Apparently both Aloes and Kniphofia come primarily from Africa. The flowers and big succulent leaves of Aloes are by far the more noteworthy. I don't grow very many of them but enjoy the ones I do. This article at this website has photos of many different Aloe plant and flower forms after a couple wordier pages.

Today we walked along the path that is right beside the water in town. We saw three deer and three people.

Our walk was 5 kilometres. Whenever we see people, we put our dogs on their leashes. One woman said ‘not to worry about it, that she loves all dogs.’ I really like people who say stuff like that. It made my day. I hope everyone is having a fabulous day.
