A Nice Walk ( with photos )

I love the sound of geese passing overhead and they are fun to see walking around. I confess, though, that I'm a bit intimidated by them; they can be grouchy things.
The running joke here in Canada is that they are our "Cobra Chicken Attack Squadron". They are dangerous in the spring time, when their eggs hatch and the little geese are still in the nests. Some cities here in Canada employ Border Collie dogs with handlers, to herd the adults away from public parks and beaches. The Toronto International airport has a crew of hawks and falcons, who chase the geese away from the runways. The Hawks and Falcons are controlled by their handlers from the ground. There are also propane powered sound cannons that fire a loud noise to scare off the bird flocks at the airport. JIMB>

Oh they can be. Especially ones who are used to people. If you go to Ontario place or Canadas Wonderful or the CNE and want to walk around with food you just bought, you have to protect yourself from the geese. They will attack you to get food. I don’t blame you for being scared. I’m afraid for little kids who don’t know what to do when these guys attack.

These particular geese, we saw today, are still afraid of humans which they should be.
Holy cows! Attack geese! I mean, I get it; I've seen geese attack and they are scary! Seems a good policy to give them a wide berth. I feel badly for the kids too, though. Sheesh.

Man, your geese are not messing around!

Today we went for a forest walk. It was snowy and icy still . This trail is probably the last trail to be clear of snow mainly because it’s in the forest and the sun doesn’t get to it.
We walked about 2 kilometers in total.

This is a raised wooden path.

We didn’t see any other people. I think it’s because of the time of day we went. We’ve been leaving later on in the day. The temperature isn’t as cold.

Have a nice day.

Today we went to the Celtic Shores to go for our walk. It was -6 Celsius and sunny. We didn’t see anyone .

We went to the second entry point. These are the musical domes.

These are ducks in the water.

We walked 2 1/2 kilometres. I’m almost back to walking my normal gait.

Hope everyone is having a nice day.

I was just thinking of you. How are you doing?
There are snow shovels at every bridge for anyone who wants to shovel. We DO look after each other.
Hey Patty...Coming along slowly. My PSW and visiting nurse are both great to work with. I now have a new rollator walker, supplied by the Provincial Ministry of Health, at no cost to me, plus an elevated toilet with handles, also provided by the Province. We will be seeing my primary care Doctor this Monday in person, so he can assess the edema in my legs and feet. How is your thumb ? Better I hope? JIMB>

I just want to point out to our American members that the speed limit sign that reads "90" is in kilometers, not miles per hour. That converts to 55 mph. JIMB>

Hi Jim, I’m glad things are going well with you. A new rollator walker to help you walk is great especially since it’s paid for. An elevated toilet is helpful. It sounds like you are well cared for. Did you try the medicated Goldbond lotion? It works great on edema.
My thumb is doing great so I’m a my heel tendon . It’s almost healed. Thanks for asking.
We just came back from our walk. It’s cleat type conditions. Very icy where we walked.

Today we walked along the forest trail. It was very difficult to walk on. I should have worn my cleats but didn’t. We only saw one group of people but it was at the end of our walk. They had a child with them and they were in their car by the time we got back from our walk. Here’s some photos that shows the icy trail. Tomorrow we’ll go on the new ATV trail. Note: I’m unsure of what type of ducks they are. I don’t think they are loons. Loons are well defined birds. I’ll ask ChatGPT what it thinks they are.

Here is the info I got from ChatGPT.
That’s a Common merganser (chatgpt://generic-entity?number=0).
The one in front with the dark (almost black) head and bright white body is a male, and the brown-headed ones behind are females or juveniles.

Note: We saw them today and they aren’t as vocal as loons are. Plus loons are more of a loner. They don’t generally travel in flocks.

Today I had a doctors appointment. ( counselling ) so we took our dogs for a walk at the Celtic Shores. It was great because most of the trail was completely snow free.
The clouds were extra low today. It was 5 degrees but felt like 10 degrees. The sun was shining.

Here is a house with a metal roof. Our roof needs redoing so we had a metal roof contractor over at our house today taking measurements.
