A notice in McDonalds - Please ask a staff member if you require a straw.

For a while, some places in the states seemed to be pushing customers away from straws, but now they seem to have edged away from that stance. Bags seem to be another battlefield. The other day a store worker at the register asked me if I wanted to be environmentally friendly, and do without a bag. So I agreed to dispense with the bag, and awkwardly carried the item out of the store, waving my receipt at other employees so they’d known I wasn’t shoplifting. Someday, you may hear me screaming as store security wrestles me to the ground that I’m not a thief, just “environmentally friendly…🙀

So I asked, Do I need a Straw?
Met with a blank look
We are lucky if they get the order right. What does "no cheese" mean to you, I'd like to ask. Also, we mostly get napkins if we remember to ask for them, that and condiments like catsup.

There is one MacD's in town that gets it right, every time. Whoever set that up should be hired to consult with the owner/manager/supervisors of the other McD's.

Luckily I hardly ever eat at McD's. I think the food is sketchy. There is no way to duplicate their hamburgers at home. I've tried because my husband loves them. Whatever they are doing to the meat, it is not going into my stomach.

It's 2021. Corporations can't be seen as a money grubbing bunch, totally concerned with profit, and to hell with anything else. They have to be seen as socially aware. Saving the planet from millions of useless straws in landfills is an example. And, of course, while they are being "socially aware", if they can save a buck, why not.

Good thing you don't know what goes in those burgers. I had a friend that worked where they were made here & she told me everything that's in them. That's when I quit eating NcDees stuff. Many years ago, when the burgers changed the taste.

I don't know which is worse starpukes or McDees coffee anymore. The first one is way overpriced & 2nd one has too much chickory in it.

Could be they quietly went back to the "pink Slime" that they got caught with back in 2014.

In 2014, a viral photo of “pink slime” became a public relations nightmare for McDonald's. Despite years of denials, McDonald’s finally admited to using the disgusting "pink slime" in their beef.
This pink goop is “ammonia-treated lean beef trimmings” and truly does look like strawberry soft serve. It’s a mash-up of mystery meat parts that are stripped by a machine and then added to burger patties and chicken nuggets to help beef up their appearance (It’s actually not a mystery, but it’s really gross). 🤮

Many places are going to paper straws instead of plastic. At least they decompose.
In the last month, I've eaten at several good size restaurants that give out pre-wrapped thick plastic straws. I asked the waitress why these straws are thick and wrapped so funnily?

She said we take them back into the back & we have a machine now that will wash & sterilize the straws & re-wrap them for use again so they don't go to the landfill. So I learned something new.

Yeah, let's re-use straws. Meanwhile, plastic water, soda, milk, juice containers by the billions aren't the problem... It's the straws. :(
