A patient in their home had to call police to save a visiting home health care worker from a heroin overdose.

The health care worker was charged with reckless endangerment and drug offenses.

This is just one reason I don't like these home visit by the health care industry. I'm sure there are some that really really need them but many don't. I've heard or have seen too much with these workers. I know people who had to 'baby sit' the workers kid while they checked on the patient. Another sustained property damage because a visitor couldn't park a car properly. Others just 'stop in' even though there is entire 1/2 hour checklist. Others said the workers take 30 second trips to bathroom for what ever-the patient in the story should take an inventory of her belongings because junkies steal.

More home health care workers behaving badly. They have to vet and supervisor these employees better nurses or not. Along with regular drug testing.

I operate under the premise that most people work for money not the love of the job. Which means they need or want money. Being "medical" professionals does not make them beyond reproach.

Be aware if you wind up with home care wether it be nursing, therapy or general labor. Always keep the companies name and number handy. Do not hesitate to call a supervisor and/or the doctors and hospital that recommended or uses them. Take note of your surroundings and condition of your property including outside if possible. Take a mental inventory and location of potential valuables. Try to be interactive with the employee, if they think you don't care or are not paying attention you will be considered pray or a sucker. Keep a camera handy to document any possible damage or even photograph conditions prior to their arrival. Take a mental note of their routine, should be a structured checklist for the most part. Be aware of replacements or companies that send a different employee every time.
