A Plan to Sculpt History

Bringing the computer tablet with its camera to the Historical Library, some pics were taken, more or less randomly. One series of five pics resulted in a GIF, 42 seconds in length, planned to be read near the beginning of the presentation, as the mentioned tablet sits at the library's entryway.

Several GIFs, approximately 20 seconds each, can be connected in order to create a relatively long episode which lasts well over a minute. Although on numerous other websites these episodes can easily be uploaded, Senior Forums' uploads fail, despite several attempts.

Hence, these ate the recent short GIFs:

In conjunction with the other artworks, another project has begun which entails sort of a short graphic novel telling the Lovejoy Story through narratives quotes, and images which will be given to all the participants at the presentation. It'll be something for them to refer to and be able to take home. Started yesterday, it's up to 8 pages, not counting the cover.

It'll be printed on ivory-colored paper with digitalized black and white monochromatic images, to give it that old timey look, using artwork already completed.

Thank you for posting your projects @Davey Do. I am a bit late to discover your artwork. I love the Lovejoy figures you created. The image of the Alton Observer building is very atmospheric, I like it :)

This was an exciting GIF to make, as it was inspired by Lacy, the manager of the Historical Library, when she made note of a lack of the mob's violence in my animations.

A few different techniques were utilized and the whole process was completed in a relatively short span of time.

Another librarian, Pam, has offered to assist me in the creation of the short graphic novel, in that she will template the layout so it can be printed on both sides of 4" x 5 1/2" pages instead of one-sided standard 8" x 11" pages. A lot of time, energy, and frustration will be relieved on my part.

And, I am having one heck of a good time!

LOTS of time is being spent on this Lovejoy Project, and a 16+ page sort of comic book has been completed, 30+ copies printed which will be available to those who attend the presentation.

After running off the copies, no fewer than four "mistakes"- typos, misaligned pages, etc.- were discovered, but it is complete, and I created it myself using the analog methods of physically cutting & pasting, then running it off on my copying machine.

Oscar Wilde said something along the lines of "When an artist stops doing art for themselves, they cease being artists". If I weren't doing this project because I enjoy it, but to meet another's perceived expectations, I wouldn't do it. I want to share my art with others who have an interest in history & art, but I do not want to make it into "a thing".

Yesterday, Lacy, the library manager and I did a "dry run" and the animations on the big screen look great! She ran this one, and it was fun!

Due to my recent hip pain and diagnosis of degenerative arthritis, the Lovejoy Presentation has been shelfed to be taken off if an opportunity presents itself.

However, the subject continues to inspire me, resulting in artistic expressions, as in this recent GIF, which was my initial inspiration to research the Lovejoy Story.

I visited the Historical Library yesterday and had a nice exchange with Lacy, the manager. She mentioned that Mr. Ken Ellingwood, the author of the book on Lovejoy, The First to Fall, would be interested in my work, so I presented her with two relatively pristine copies of the book which I had created for my presentation. One will go to Mr. Ellingwood, and the other will go on the library's shelves. Lacy has her own earlier printing copy.

We also discussed sending Mr. Ellingwood a copy of the complete animated series, so I began creating a several minute animation, piecing the GIFs together. Although the author knows the Lovejoy Story in & out, I noticed holes in the animated storyline, such as the delivery of the press, so I began setting up the Lovejoy Theater.

Standing for extended periods of time, as in setting up the staging area can be painful, so I opted to sit at my art desk and plan the operation two dimensionally. This is the result:

That one was fun & simple, and I'll go on creating more based on the Lovejoy story until the fuel is exhausted.
