A Plant So Hot Its Juices Destroy Nerve Endings

Hotter by far than the hottest Carolina Reaper, the world’s hottest pepper.
So, what the big deal about it?
But while that toxicity will lay up any mammal dumb enough to chew on the resin spurge, resiniferatoxin has also emerged as a promising painkiller. Inject RTX, as it’s known, into an aching joint, and it’ll actually destroy the nerve endings that signal pain. Which means medicine could soon get a new tool to help free us from the grasp of opioids.
Here’s the part that would thrill me endlessly:
So if you wanted to treat knee pain, you could directly inject RTX into the knee tissue. You’d anesthetize the patient first, of course, since the resulting pain would be intense. But after a few hours, that pain wears off, and you end up with a knee that’s desensitized to pain.
The only problem for me is that it apparently would do nothing to repair the cartilage loss that’s causing me so much pain.

So if you want to treat the cause and repair the cartilage then you can do that nutritionally. If I stop eating my greens for, say, a week or two, then my knees get to the point where I can't walk very well. Not just my knees but my legs, feet, and ankles too. But when I pay attention to foods that are antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, collagen makers, and foods with Vitamins A,C,D,K, (and B12), my knees heal like magic in a week or two.

I juice but eating these fresh ingredients also work. For my juice I use Kale, Spinach, Cucumber, Celery, Parsley, Lemon, 1/2 orange (unless it's small), Granny Smith Apple, fresh Ginger, and fresh Turmeric. Occasionally I'll use 1/2 fresh Beet for detoxing. I don't want any toxins so I buy organic whenever I can. People say, "but it's so expensive". I reply, "but think how much I'm saving on doctor's bills and I do have to eat SOMEthing, and plus I feel so good with energy and no pain".

But, like I said, if you're not into the process of juicing then just eat it.

Amazing info on the hot pepper, Sargento.

Lara, your juice sounds so tasty, but you do remove the kale spines, first, don't you? I heard they're not good to eat.

Yes, I hold onto the stem with one hand, and then with the other hand just squeeze and run down the stem sliding all the leaves off. Then wash. No need to massage the kale because the juicer does a good job of that :) I don't buy the chopped kale in sealed bags because they leave the stem on.

I'm not sure if the stem is harmful when juiced. The fiber is removed. They probably say it's bad because it just tastes bitter.

I eat apples, bananas, and vegies every day.

Oh good @sargentodiaz but remember, those won't repair your knee cartilage unless your veggies include Kale and Brussel Sprouts that are high in vitamin K.

Also your fruits should be high in vitamin C and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory like Oranges, Lemons, and Pomegranates. I mean, apples and bananas are certainly healthy BUT won't help to repair your knee cartilage.

Also Legumes (peanuts, peas, and beans) are anti-inflammatory. Their protein replaces collagen. Legumes also have high levels of Lysine which is critical for regeneration.

Nuts, like Almonds and Brazil Nuts, have magnesium that you'll need. Also Sesame Seeds.
