A play, a pint and a pie

Yesterday we went to see a delightfully humourous musical play called "Margaret saves Scotland". It was by Val Mc.Dermid who is a famous Scottish crime writer, so this was quite a change for her. It is based on a true story and tells of a 9 year old English girl who is so fond of Scotland that she runs away to start a Scottish revolution. Sadly, her ideas mostly come from childrens' books and is far from reality.

This is performed in a small (max 300 seat) theatre and for your £10 (about $14) before the play you get a pint of beer (or, wine, or a soft drink) and a 'Scotch pie'. Traditionally, this would be made with mutton, but these had beef.

A goof bit of early afternoon entertainment.

Sounds like a good time. I had to look up Scottish pies. They look delish. Almost like meatloaf covered in a crust or like Beef Wellington but ground meat.

I read some comments where some put mushy peas on top with a liberal splash of malt-vinegar. Another poured a rich beef broth over it. And another topped it with chili & beans on top. Another added mushrooms.

Interesting. All sound good except the vinegar might take me some getting used to.
