A question about microwave ovens

Often directions say heat for 3 or 4 minutes, then leave in the oven for a minute.
What difference does leaving it in the oven make?

It lets the pockets of hot and cold food stabilize at a uniform temperature. It's probably also a safety measure so one doesn't end up w a mouthful of super heated food. Some directions also call for stirring the ingredients as a way to mix the pockets of food that vary in temp.

It's like an incubator, small area with with some warmth. Warming, or steaming, that's all I know.

You were in some kind of science related field, weren't you? If you want to know run some experiments. Yeah, this is why I wasn't a popular kid in high school..

I have had several over the years, some really big others smaller.. thhe last one aa Pansonic was really large, and I donated that when I bought the one I have now which is a Flatbed oven and grill... flatbed meaning there is no turntable.. hence no big glass plate that spins around...either

I have noticed spots of the food are hotter in some areas than others, and I expect leaving it to sit disperses the heat more evenly. Also, you are less likely to burn your hand. I learned that experience.
