A Rant About Amazon's Site

Apparently, Amazon has decided to do away with the Ask A Question and Answered Questions functions on some of their listings. It sometimes appears it's there, but when you click on the Answered Questions link (which from there you could ask a question if you didn't see your answer), it just takes you to the Reviews; the Answered Questions are nowhere to be found.

So frustrating! I found the question function to be very helpful (it's saved me some money) and have answered some myself. Why, Amazon, why?!

Amazon is weak on providing much in the way of technical documentation on products. I generally won't buy electronics on Amazon, unless I have a reliable off-site reference source.
Thanks, Nathan. If you don't mind me asking, where do you buy electronics online? Or do you just get them at a brick & mortar store? (Unfortunately, we don't have any electronics stores around here other than Best Buy and every time I ask any of their clerks a question, I usually get this:

I noticed this, too, and I don't like that they've done away with it. It was helpful to read the questions and comments and to ask my own question if need be. It's not an improvement and makes it more difficult to find out about a product because the sellers give limited and sometimes misleading information.

It seems to me that having the Question and Answer option would cut down on product returns, but what do I know? 🙄

Yea, that's the Best Buy customer service look! I've been buying computer components and general electronics products from Newegg since about 2002.

Newegg would be my first alternate to Amazon, My laptop was bought at hp.com /w free shipping. Also have bought from B&H photo, but that was years ago. Only cheap places I would avoid would be Walmart & EBAY, too many items are refurbished & not thoroghly tested out.

why not just read the reviews? also i have noticed they now have a post on the item page if something is frequently returned. i prefer to buy mine in store.

Even the reviews have changed with Amazon. Before you could read as many reviews as you wanted. Now it’s often limited to one page. Not only that but they have allowed some sellers to fuse their reviews together even if they aren’t remotely related. The other day I was looking at a device and reading the reviews. The first few reviews made sense but when they started talking about the flavour I realized the reviews weren’t about the item I was reviewing.

Here's the look I get at Best Buy as they lead me to the $400 ear phones.

I didn't use the ask a question function a lot, but a few times it was invaluable. Product descriptions often imply things that invite you utilize the human capacity to 'believe things as you would hope them to be.' This is harmful when you're laying out big bucks. I've solved a few of these situations with the answer a question option.

Come to think of it, I did notice that lately Officer. I was thinking maybe something was wrong with my tablet or Amazon was just being glitchy that day. I agree that coupled with reviews, the Q & A was quite helpful sometimes.

Well, obviously one has to be able to discern between fake reviews and real ones.

ADDED: It's usually pretty darned obvious.
Not to everyone, Devi. That's why we have hundreds of widows and widowers and other lonely people send tens of thousands of dollars off to Nigeria and Jamaica! My video was not meant for you but for everyone! I simply used your mention of "reviews" to latch on to.

NewEgg has been a mixed experience for me. Sometimes just fine, other times the article was dicey on arrival (VERY thin metal computer case), and a few times they sent the wrong thing entirely.

Their web site has changed too. The home page seems to hawk toilet brushes and hair curlers and cat collars.

MicroCenter is a good place to shop for electronics. There's brick and mortar store near me, but you can buy online, as well.

Years ago I bought a 32" flat-screen TV at Worst Best-buy, the young sales dude just thought for sure that he was going to talk me into spending another $200 for a good quality HDMI cable and surge protector~power strip. Naw, already had what I needed. :p
