A rare form of cruelty.......

Well, you know what they say .......

“Anticipation is the greater part of pleasure.”

Haha, I feel your pain Pappy. :)

I'm so mad at myself. I intended to make bean soup this weekend, but even though I had beans and ham shanks and cornbread mix on my grocery list yesterday I was hurrying and overlooked them. Now I'll have to make do with leftover chili.

Love to get a pot of bean soup going, go outside to take out trash, then come back and smell those beans w/ham and onion doing their thing. mmmmmm..... this cold, snowy weekend would have been perfect.

Cruelty? You get to eat that stuff, eventually, right? I can only smell fine cigars, only take in the intoxicating aroma of chocolates behind glass cases, but never partake. THAT is a rare form of cruelty, indeed!

That looks so good Pappy. It is nice to have those wonderful aromas in the house but one time I put some corn beef and cabbage in the crock pot and cooked it over night. I did that because I was going to be out the next day and don't like to leave the crock pot on when I'm gone. The smell of the cabbage kept the whole family up most of the night.

There's going to be a pot o' beans cooking at my house, too. For Christmas, I got a big box of packages of "gourmet" beans. Black beans, yellow beans, speckled beans, you name it.....beans, beans, beans. I need to soak some overnight and then get a big old piece of fatback or a hamhock and start cooking. Yummeeee!

It’s over....it was delicious as I suspected. Now we will it set for a day or two and enjoy all over again.

Glad your torture is over Pappy and you enjoyed your delicious meal! Sometimes in a day or two when the flavors meld together, it tastes even better than the day it was made.

There was the story of the old man on his death bed who smelled the aroma of his favorite yummy cookies. He pulled himself out of bed and crawled/dragged himself from the bedroom, through the house and into the kitchen. He dragged himself to the table where the cookies were cooling and reached for one. At this time his wife wacked his hand with a large wooden spoon. He looked up at her with incredulous eyes. She said "those are for the funeral".

That was one of my stepfather's favorite stories!:)
