A Real French Farce.

Countries are given 7 years notice when they win their bid to host the Olympic games, so France had plenty of time to build, or to upgrade their facilities for water sports.

The River Seine does from time to time become polluted with sewage (as now), so how come the powers that be decided to use the river for the games. Was it a matter of cost or plain stupidity?

Athletes from all over the globe have travelled to France to take part in the games, but surely the wont be asked to compete in a filthy river.

What are your thoughts?

I have also been wondering if the French did proper research to see if the Seine could actually be sanitized enough for safe swimming, or if the Paris Marketing people had so much power that they told the gov’t, “It will work, it will work, it will work out because we want it to work out!”

Often these decisions become big power plays between groups of people and then the leaders stop looking at the actual SCIENCE - kind of like all our leaders’ many thousands of Climate Change debates.

Some days before the games the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, was swimming herself in the Seine to demonstrate that the river is clean. Don't trust a politician.
The German newspaper "Süddeutsche Zeitung" has an article on her today. It is not free, but you can read the headline. Translated it is: "She makes Paris greener and more beautiful - and yet is hugely unpopular".

And it only cost them 2 Billion Dollars to clean it up,money well spent NOT!

Yeah I think its a farce as well. The French should have had it ready. I mean In Canada they built a fake lake for water sports for the Pan am games, you'd think the French could have done something similar, since cleaning the filth that is the Seine is impossible.
same here when we had the games in 2012... they created a Fake Lake for water sports.. , and it was a great success. For about 3 or 4 years after the games they let it go to rack and ruin , the public were up in arms because it cost the taxpayer a lot of money for it to be created , so since then they've created a white water rafting centre , and it's great fun and very popular. I go there often..it's only a short drive from where I live

Thankfully they maintained our fake lake and turned it into a family water park, that actually makes the city/country money!

It should be an obvious thing, but why isn't the International Olympic Committe applying common sense, in terms of deciding who is a male, and who is a female? Test their chromosomes for xx equals female, xy equals male. Forget about exterior changes like breast enhancement, or testicular removal. At the cellular level, their gender is obvious .

..but they did, and they discovered that they were men ..that they had XY chromosomes .

In Khelif and Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan, these Olympics have two boxers who were thrown out of last year’s world championships due to concerns over their testosterone levels.

The fact that the IOC would rather shame anyone critical of the boxers’ involvement for not being kind enough rather than hold themselves accountable for what's happening to women who have fairly trained for a sport for years.. only to have a man destroy that in literally seconds is just beyond credibility.

The whole world now is standing up against this, and I hope that this is never permitted to happen again. ..perhaps next time, they should allow a category for Trans people to fight each other..
