A senior's chatroom, and the tall handsome stranger with a tall.... tall tale!

Aside from dating sites for seniors there are chatrooms as well, but, like the dating sites, they are chock full of fakers, and it has gotten worse! Recently I joined one, just hoping to meet some online friends and chat, communicate, email, etc. But as usual, it didn't work out like that. While in the room, a private message came in and began chatting with a guy.
I asked to see a picture of his face, and when he sent it, I fell back in my chair! I would say he resembled Robert Redford.
A very handsome man, well dressed, and appeared to be quite well off. Of course, this threw an immediate red flag for me, as to why would a man this good looking and well off, would be interested in me? Ok, I knew it wasn't real but decided to play along for a while.
The chats continued, then messages, then emails, etc. He overwhelmed me with compliments, and began using the word "love", yep, a real Romeo eh LOL? Then came the real nonsense, he began telling me of his money problems, hmm, funny how he looked well off to me.
He kept on and on asking for money, finally telling me he was ill and needed money as soon as possible! This is where I drew the line. First off, he is lying about who he is, now lying about a mystery illness, which he never described to me.
I put the pictures he had sent me into an image search engine, and presto! It popped up on dozens of dating and social sites, one even showed the person in the picture he was claiming to be with a younger blonde woman sitting on his lap, at a ski resort, and another one a boat lol!! Yep, he really needs the money lol! When I confronted him with this, he told me that woman was his daughter lol!! A daughter that sat on his lap with her arms wrapped around his neck?
I blocked him everywhere, so hence, the end of that ridiculous person whomever they were. Senior ladies living alone, beware of the many fakes out there! There's more of them than real people lol! :( Now, do I wish I could meet a man who loves me and look like Robert Redford? Yes, I do!! Will it er happen? No, it won't :(, but a girly can dream the impossible dream, after all, dreamin' is free! :)

:ROFLMAO:Enjoyed your humorous post.

Romance scamming is a global problem. Older women have been scammed out of life savings. There are many stories about this issue on YouTube. These stories are heartbreaking. I'm posting a video about a victim of a romance scam who lost $2.5 million. This story was covered by CBS Sunday Morning about a year ago.

Thank you for posting this, I hope everyone watches it!

Can you make it available in my country also please? Canada. šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

I know a guy who got scammed by a woman.
He's in his early 70s, lost his house, his semi, and sold most everything else.
It's a sad deal, and of course, he feels like a fool.
Loneliness can affect your judgement
I have seen many situations where that happened, especially in overseas situations where they met online, then in person. Loneliness can cloud a person's judgement, and when combined with aging, even more so.

This was so sad to watch. A beautiful woman with lots of time and money, who had finally gotten to the point in life she worked so hard for, only to be scammed out of it all. Everyone be careful out there, especially when it comes to online romance.

In my short period of communications with that guy, I never mentioned anything about money, but the story took a strange turn when he began mentioning money, and his "illness" he needed the money for.
Not very convincing of course, but when it comes to my money, nothing would be convincing enough to send it to some stranger online who is lying about everything!
The pictures he sent me, told the whole story! 1st, there was no way a guy who looked like that, could even be remotely interested in me :(,
which brings into question, who was really behind the picture, and what did he want from me? It could only be 1 thing....money. Not once did he mention meeting me or wanting to know me better. He just tried to reel me in with a few compliments (girlies eat up that crap ya know lol!!) but again, I knew he was lying. :(

I remember ICQ chats and AOL Online.
Me too. In the AOL chat rooms, I had my own room, it was great because it allowed hosts to block or remove people who were unruly. I remember ICQ, Yahoo chats, and I was in a chess club and we used Pal Talk and Roger Wilco to talk to each other over the computers during games, great times back then!
