No ball pens when I was at school. As infants we had pencils, then graduated to pen and ink. Every desk had an inkwell into which you dipped your pen.
As for an I-phone, you took four pennies, went to the phone box (The Brits didn't call it a booth)

Lifted the phone off the hook, inserted your four pennies. when you heard: "Hello!" you pressed button A to speak. No reply, you pressed button B to retrieve your four pennies.

Yes, I had one of these! And my own kids used to love them. One time, their grandparents gave them each one, and they were in heaven.

I got one when I was in secondary school.. I was very proud of that.. and the girl who sat behind me who was part of a bully gang, stole it... and denied she'd taken it, despite using it in front of me...

... but I have several of those today in my desk drawer... I still use them for my hard copy accounts ledgers

I remember those. I thought that it was a great idea. But when I finally got one, I didn't use it very much at all.
