A Smashing Lunar Eclipse

On the morning of the 8th September 2025 is the best Lunar eclipse ever! It lasts for over an hour.

At 3.30am AEST it commences. I have already set my alarm.

Even the weather is looking good, the last Lunar Eclipse was a real fizzer with clouds covering the sky but this one looks promising with warm sunny days either side.

You will have to check for when it occurs in your locality but the Moon is right in the middle of the Earth's shadow hence it lasts so long.

What is AEST? Australian Eastern Standard Time? I will look that up. It may be daytime in North America. Or not even visible. Thanks for the heads up, though!

Edited to add: Regions seeing, at least, some parts of the eclipse: Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, West in North America, East in South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Arctic, Antarctica.

I've seen many in my lifetime, so you can be sure there is no way that I will get up next week at an ungodly hour to see another one. Now, a solar eclipse is something I really have a passion for. Recall only a couple and none were total, but one in particular was close.

My dad was still alive and he and I were outside taking notice of all that was happening. My mom stayed in the house, as she found it just too weird for her tastes. That surprised me, since most events of this sort usually interested her.

I hope those of you who watch this latest lunar eclipse enjoy same and share whatever pictures you capture with us.

There is a partial eclipse in Wollongong on the 22nd September 2025 but I am hoping to be around for the total eclipse on 22nd July 2028.

The latter will be quite something.

I believe the Lunar Eclipse will be 7pm on Sunday night in the UK, no idea of the time in North America
