A thread to fight about 😵

The world needs more love
Seems like no matter the topic, some people must debate why others are stupid and their views are enlightened.

I imagine someone will take issue with me saying the ocean is deep.
Oh yeah? The ocean isn't deep at the shore now is it, you lame brain!

The title is all wrong, we are not fighting as no punches were thrown, it's called discussion, good grief!

I have inlaws like that. I tend to pizz them off big time cause I refuse to argue.
I will listen to you. And if what you say has merit, I will take it into consideration.
But in the end Im going to do what Im going to do. So from where I stand arguing is futile.
As to whether the ocean is deep or not. Depends on your prospective. If youre five it might be deep at the shore. :D

Remember that kid in school who ate paste.
Thats probably who youre arguing with when you argue with someone on the internet.
Sorry. Not sorry. :D

The purpose of any discussion is to explore a topic by participating as well as actively listening, to various viewpoints. If the topic is of interest to you, then it is your choice to engage in it. A good discussion should never become toxic. I have seen many interesting topics here and hopefully, there will be many more.

Perhaps it's because they truly are stupid? There's no cure for that, you know.
Ignorance, yes. Stupidity, no.

The ones that I find most entertaining are the ones who do something really stupid, then whine about it, then do it again. Don't they ever learn? Nope. That's the difference between Ignorance and Stupidity...

Back in our dark ages (before the Internet) I used to think stupidity was not really that prevalent. Then the Internet came along and somebody invented Anti-Social Media, like Fakebook, etc., and showed us that stupidity is actually rampant in the world.

True. Used to be those people were limited to their general vicinity.
Now not only can they go world wide, but they can also gain followers.

I dont post on FB or the bird app or any of that stuff. But I admit sometimes I do lurk and snicker.
Some people are just too entertaining even if they are serious. :D
Right now the inlaws are having a smack down on FB over who voted for who in the last election.
Umm. Its over. Its a moot point now. Better luck next time? :D

Expressing your views and stating your opinion is one thing; going beyond that is a waste of time and effort. Arguing is ineffectual. You cannot persuade someone else to change their perspective, no matter how credible and substantive the facts you provide are. They'll simply disregard it and continue to believe anything they choose.

Some people just get off on being a-holes. They don't have anything to contribute intellectually, so putting others down is a way for them to get attention. As others have said, it could be a mark of stupidity or ignorance. Or it could just be a way for them to fit in somewhere since there are plenty of other a-holes in the world they can bond with.

The ones that really push my buttons I have on ignore. It has made things more pleasant for me. This has been my first experience with an online forum (other than FB which I left over a decade ago).

"Or it could just be a way for them to fit in somewhere since there are plenty of other a-holes in the world they can bond with."

Unfortunately the AHs have been given platforms where they can bond. If you have a platform some of the world begins to take you seriously.

Also, there will always be those who absolutely love to argue with the AHs. 🤷‍♀️

Well, I enjoy a good debate or an exchange of opinions and sometimes I'll quote a person and argue against their position point by point, particularly if I have stats on my side. I thought that was how it was done. I would never call anyone stupid and lots of times one of us, often me, is just misinformed and can learn something.

The forum I spent many years on before coming here had a section called "Hell" where one member could call out another one with whom they disagreed. It was then no holds barred and anyone who agreed with a side could join in causing some huge dogpiles. There, I was called all sorts of bad words and once told to, "Eff off and die," using the actual words. This was a Christian / Episcopalian board.

We were all of the same political persuasion (God help anyone from the opposite wing) but occasionally I would take a moderate view towards an extreme position and that's when the trouble would start. After 20 years of such excitement I sought out a more peaceful forum.

This place is like Heaven. If you can't take the heat here you should spend a few days in the Shipoffools Forum's Hell.

Yeah, where did that ex-pat get all that nerve from? Luckily I think everyone's nuts, including myself of course. No freebies for me.
