A trip to remember.

A trip to remember.
Our way to Florida, this year, was most memorable.
First day: Running along on I-81, in Pennsylvania, we came upon a truck hauling porta-potties. Somehow, the toilet paper roll, on one of the portables, began to unroll. The wife and I we laughing so hard and then...the paper came to the end of the roll. Yep, it flew right on the hood of my car and was flapping on both sides of the card. I finally was able to pull over and remove the paper. I told the wife that people probably thought we were just married. We both had a good laugh over this.

Day two: Due to hurricane Matthew, the weather started to deteriorate quickly so I started to think about getting off and let the storm do its thing. We tried six different exits and every motel was booked, due to folks leaving Georgia and Florida. Finally, on the seventh try, we found a dinky motel room in St. George, South Carolina. It was one of those places you would never stay in if one had a choice. 140 rooms and the tv and internet was on dish tv. Only ten people could use the internet at one time and the tv went off every time it rained hard.

Day three: We just found out I-95 is closed, just south of us, due to flooding. OMG, we have to spend another night here. Everything was closed except one Waffle House, so you can imagine the wait here. The wife and I didn't dare use the shower as it was dirty and moldy. It didn't do any good to complain as everyone I talked to had the same. One woman I talked to actually got sick when she opened the refrigerator door in her room.

Day four: I called the South Carolina DOT and they said I-95 was still closed. However, I noticed several semi trucks getting on the south ramp.I told the wife, we are going to take a chance and follow the trucks. We threw our luggage in the car and got the hell out of there. Well, god bless the truckers, we had clear sailing all the way to Florida and home. Amen.

That does sound memorable. Sounds like you didn't lose your sense of humor though. The toilet paper thing sounded funny but the storm had to be a bit unnerving with the flooding. Glad you made it back safely!

Pappy following truckers has saved my life before when I had zero visibility in storms. Had they gone off a cliff I would have gone right off along with them. They usually know the routes.

I'm so very glad you have made it through all of that okay :)
