We needed to get outta Dodge, so we took a trip to San Marcos to visit the CAF. It was deserted except for the volunteers working on the planes. We had a wonderful guided tour of the planes in the hangar and the museum. I wish I had taken more pics but the commentary was so good I plum forgot! Here is a picture of a Mitchell bomber that was in the forefront on D-day. The inside was so Spartan. It took 3 years and 3 million dollars to restore it. The CFA flew it to Normandy for the anniversary of D-day a couple years ago. It was a very worthwhile trip. 25C5FF69-98B3-4F8A-858D-E9688DB2922F.jpeg

Oops! That's not a Mitchell bomber but a cargo plane that initially carried paratroopers on D-Day, then went back and pulled a Waco glider across the channel. We heard so many stories yesterday I got mixed up.

The aircraft in your picture is a C-47....the military version of a Douglas DC-3. If you ever get a chance, and like airplanes, visit the National Air and Space Museum (Smithsonian) in Washington, DC. Great museum!!!
