A Very Good Life

I am a very positive person. At 71, I want to prepare for when I get older. Basically, I want friendships to follow me as my adventure in ageing progresses. My present (second) wife is several years older than I am. My first wife of 38 years died 12 years ago from brain cancer. I am so lucky to have, and have had, two women in my life that have loved me and that I have loved (love) very deeply. I try not to allow fear into my thoughts, but I do have some fear of being alone again. If I can build friendships that can follow me online through whatever situations I experience as I age, it could help with that potential loneliness.

I am a retired Professor of Political Science. I do have a lot of friends in my local area but they are slowly dying off or moving away. I am Co-President of my local Rotary Club and serve as President of the Governing Council of a local charter school. I am very blessed with memories of an interesting life. I am also blessed with still being active in my community. However, I can see a future where that community activity will not be possible or where I may be forced to move away due to health or life situation.

My interests are gardening, travel, doing art glass, spending time with friends, and spending time with my wife and our two doggies. I value intellectual discussions and I respect all views, even political views. I love life!

Welcome to the forum @drdean
What kind of art glass do you do? I've taken stained glass classes, and have made a window with leaded glass, mirrors and sun-catchers. That was quite some time ago though.
I do both stained glass and fused glass. I just love the way glass can be mostly two dimensional and look three dimensional. I like to combine different glass techniques to come up with original pieces. What was the leaded glass window you made like?

@drdean .. fused glass would be interesting. I will have to Google it for details on how it is done.
My leaded glass window was an iris. I left it back in Australia. It had a white frame around it, and hooks for hanging, though it was once set into a window when I first made it. I have a photo somewhere in an album. Would love to see your fused glass.
