A Weird Issue with Amazon

Today I ran into a friend who told me a story of her latest parcel from Amazon. Her daughter has been ordering small gifts for her upcoming birthday.

Yesterday’s was to be a jar of marmalade. Instead, it was an obviously reused marmalade jar and it held peppercorns and no marmalade.

Speculation on how this happens is worrisome. The vendor accidentally supplied the wrong thing? Somebody in Amazon exchanged it?

Pretty scary to think that a food item could be opened and contaminated.

The daughter was contacting Amazon.

I hope she gets it straightened out. Amazon also delivered me the wrong items awhile back. They weren't food items but rather were underwear. I took it to mean whoever was handling it got confused and put the wrong ones in the bag. I returned them. Good luck to her.

not surprising and
more often then not blamed on a third party seller / shipper....
Had a news crew in my area did stories on a few 3rd party vendors with Amazon selling outdated item they got from dumpster behind stores.

Here's a somewhat pleasanter Amazon story. I recently was in the market for a wristwatch -- one with a good day/date display. So off to Amazon where I found a Japanese Citizen watch that had what looked to be a very nice day/date display, lightweight titanium band, rechargeable in sunlight, etc. $240, but looked great, and the Amazon display page said it was returnable. So I ordered it. Probably coming from Japan so it took awhile to arrive, I opened the box, and it was exactly as described, BUT (at least in my opinion) the day/date display was not nearly as good as the picture, and that was the reason I bought it. So I log on and click the return option. Up pops "This Item Is Not Returnable"! Went back to the sale page and it still said that it was returnable -- so I called Amazon Customer Service and explained the problem. The Cust Svc woman put me on hold, said she was refunding my payment in full, and I could keep the watch or donate it. Gave it to a local church thrift shop. They had no problem selling it. (-8

Yes, I usually have good service with Amazon too.
I would complain about these 2nd and 3rd party sellers, maybe with enough complaints Amazon will drop them.

Was it a used jar that had formerly held peppercorns or was it a jar of marmalade with peppercorns added to it?
A used marmalade jar now filled with peppercorns. I’ll go correct my phrasing. Thanks for pointing that out.

When buying from Amazon, I always check to see whether an item's description says "ships from and sold by Amazon.com". Sometimes, I'll buy something sold by a third party but shipped by Amazon.
