AARP What it is and what it does

Years ago I was an AARP member. I asked about home insurance. They said no. Why? Because I had chickens.

Years before that my in-laws told them never mind when they doubled their auto insurance when they turned 70. They found new coverage for what they had been paying with AARP.

edit: fingers not working. again.

Some years ago, I had the UHC medicare supplement sponsored by AARP. It was fine, but was costing me far more than the Mutual of Omaha supplement I switched to before eventually moving to an Advantage plan.
How has the Advantage plan worked out for you? What plan did you have when you paid for the supplement plan?

I found the same when I checked on Car Insurance through them.
I had their car insurance. They kept raising the rates, so I switched to Geico. They keep trying to get me to come back to them for my car insurance, claiming that I could save over a hundred dollars with them. I just laugh and throw the nonsense into my garbage.

The standard come on for most insurance companies is "You could save as much as $550!"

I had plan N on the Mutual of Omaha supplement plan. It had small copays which made the premium lower than the supplement plan that pays everything. When I left the plan, it was running about $200 / month. I now have a Humana Advantage that has a "give back" - meaning I get a $90 / month reduction in my part B Medicare premium, which is credited back to me on my SS benefit payment. It's working out okay for me.

Because of the "give back" provision (not available in all zip codes) I have a $425 annual deductible to meet before it will pay for diagnostic tests, but that's okay, since the give back is saving me $1080 per year in premiums. There is no deductible or copay to see the doctor.

Do they have a good dental option only? I already good VA health coverage.

The dental looks about average for Advantage plans, primarily just paying for routine cleanings. I went to the dentist last month for $140 and they're supposed to pay half. If you're only looking for dental, you might find better options.

I read the AARP magazine every month so I know what’s happening in the lives of aging celebrities. I hang on every word they say. It helps me to know what I should be thinking. This gives meaning to my mundane life.
