About your middle name ...

My middle name is the first name of my father. Both names are dated to the first half of the twentieth century. I'm not particularly taken with either one of them. My father's sister had named her oldest son (four years older than me) after my father, which my mother had always told me that she was very upset about. My father had the same name as his father, so otherwise I would have also been named the same if my aunt had not done that. (Maybe she thought that my parents had two daughters and would not be trying for another child--I am five years younger than my middle sister.) So although I'm not keen on either one, I think on balance I do prefer my own first name over that of my father, which is my middle name.

I have three middle names. (Italian custom at my time of birth). That has created major problems for me since living in the USA. I decided to drop them all for simplicity. I sometimes encountered problems filling out some forms that insisted I put down at least one middle name.
All my legal documents do not convey them.
I hate all of my first names, first one included!

Edit to add that my mother told my sister and I that my father named us both after his old girl friends names! My parents separated and ultimately divorced shortly after my birth!

I was called by my middle name which I never liked at home so as to not confuse me with my father, whose first name I shared. Once I left for college, I began using just my first name, relegating the middle one to an initial used only on documents requiring a full name.

Wouldn’t it be cool to be known only as a nickname or an alias, like ā€œRockyā€ or ā€œStormbreaker?ā€ šŸ˜‰
