Absentminded Me...

I usually wait till the dishwasher is full to turn it on but today I wasn't thinking, apparently. I recall thinking I'm going to put the dishwasher pack in the compartment now and then wait till the dishwasher is full and turn it on.

Then all of a sudden I hear my dishwasher going and I had only put a 1/4 of what I usually put in there...seems I just absentmindedly turned it on when I put in the soap..apparently.

Is there anything you have done absentmindedly?

OMG, I'm the queen of absent-minded things these days.

My latest was pulling the glass bottle of milk out of the fridge, pouring a glass, then instead of putting the milk bottle back in the fridge, I walked with it in my hands all the way down the hallway and into one of the spare bedrooms before I realised what I had done.

Another as of just 2 days ago, loosing my coffee cup in the morning. I remembered bringing it into the office with me, but when I scanned the desk for it, nothing, wasn't there, so I go up and went down to the kitchen, nope, not there, so pausing for a moment I said aloud, where is my d@*# coffee cup, and even after walking back into the office and scanning the desk for the second time, I missed seeing my coffee cup that was sitting right there, right in front of me.

I also find I'll be getting ready to do something in the house, and will occasionally get momentarily sidetracked, like if the phone rings or I use the bathroom, and that fast, a minute or two, I've forgotten what it was that I was going to do.

I just chalk it up to being over 50! LOL!

That's something like me walking around looking for my glasses and they there are right in my hand :ROFLMAO:

I went out today & forgot my mask. So I couldn't go shopping.

How about forgetting a kid?
When I was around 6, my mom took me & my older brother to the market with her.
Later, when we got home, my mom looked in the back seat & asked, "Where's your brother?"
I said, "He's in the parking lot at the market."
She yelled at me, "Why didn't you tell me he wasn't in the car?"
I said, "I thought we were supposed to leave him there. I don't like him, anyway."
We went back to the market & found him sitting in the attendant's booth crying.

I took the bowl of cat food out of the frig, (I don't know why but she likes it cold)
then I stirred it well, the way she likes it, 🥣
and then, I put the bowl back into the frig.

I looked down and saw the cat meowing impatiently at me. 😾

I wondered why.

OH!

I'd forgotten to do the most important part.

I've never forgotten a kid, but when my youngest daughter was a baby, she had climbed underneath her crib and fallen asleep, and while it would seem simple enough to look under the crib and spot her, such was not the case, as I had pulled the crib comforter out of her crib that morning and draped it over the crib railing to air it out, so the comforter was hanging all the way down to the floor blocking my view under the crib.

Had I just kept calm and been methodical about the way I was searching, I would have seen her.

I worked myself into a panic and was crying uncontrollably, because I had convinced myself that she had somehow gotten out the door of the house undetected and someone took her.

I'm sure I saw it, @Pecos but I cant remember where... :ROFLMAO:

I wonder why I cant.

Did you leave it on a different thread?

DO you remember where you were, when you last saw it?
NO , I don't suppose you do, or you would know where it is.
:ROFLMAO:
You know, I probably did leave on a different thread. I am off looking for it. It is grey and has a hand painted buffalo on it, in case you should come across it in your travels.

My son was doing a lot of yard work for us. He brought a change of clothes with him so he could shower and change before he had dinner with us. I decided to throw his dirt laundry in with ours. After they were dry I mindlessly folded my undies and put them in with his clean clothes.
They were returned the next day with a note saying they don't fit.

I reheated bbq for lunch last week on the stove top (gas burners.)

I had the heat down to its lowest while I made some sides, then moves the pan to another burner as I removed the bbq and put it on the bun.

I ate, cleaned up, watched a little tv, went into the kitchen for something, and noticed that the flame was still on reeeaal low.

Oops. I don't do stuff like that very often, thank goodness.

I'm sure that are lots of other things, but apparently I fix stuff on autopilot as often as I mess it up in that mode.

I worry myself because I always leave the oven on..... and then a n hour or 2 later I walk into the kitchen and think how hot it is.. and KNOW I've forgotten to turn the darn oven off again... o_O

Talking about leaving kids...I left mine when she was still only a few months old... .
In the days when you could leave your babies safely in their prams outside the shop... it was a very hot summers day.. and we walked to the local shops from the brand new house, in the new coastal town where we'd just moved..

I parked the pram with the baby outside the greengrocers ( in the days when we had independent greengrocers)>.

..went in and asked for brussel sprouts..( no self service in the greengrocers)... well apparently I'd committed a cardinal sin, Brussel sprouts were not in season.. and I was made to feel like some kind of big city know nothing for asking after them, all the looks from the locals , the tuts , I was so embarrassed.. ( I was only 21 ) :D...anyway with my head full of what happened, I just went straight home again.. about a good 10 minute walk... and only then did I realise I'd left my baby outside the shop.

OMG !! I swear to God I thought I was going to have a Heart attack, I felt sure someone would have seen me leave and would have stolen her... I was wearing 3 inch platform sole shoes ( they were high fashion then, 'scuse the pun) ..but if there had been a Gold medal for the fastest runner in high heels I would have won it, as I raced back to find her still happily and safely lying in her pram right where I left her...
