Acceptance!! All Bad Things Which Happen to Us Must Be Accepted.

Acceptance of everything that happens to us is the basic requirement for good mental health. One must accept pain, impairment of functions and even death. The Serenity Prayer is what I live by: "God grant me the Serenity to ACCEPT the things I cannot change, the energy and ability to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

We must bow to all internal and external events which affect us adversely.

I don't see it that way.

I won't bow to ALL internal and external events which affect me adversely.

I will strive to make sure, to the best of my ability, to make sure they don't happen again.

If I lose a leg, I must strive to learn to use an artificial one.

If I have a heart attack, I must strive to make myself healthier so I don't have another one.

If I lose a loved one, I must strive to be a better person in order to be able to meet up with that one in heaven......IF there is a heaven (but it doesn't hurt either way to try to be a better person. )

If I've been wronged, I must strive for justice.....or forgiveness to the person who wronged me.

I agree. It’s best to accept what has happened because we all know we can’t change the past, but we can work on making sure that what did happen, doesn’t happen again. We can learn from our mistakes.

On a basic level I agree that whatever happens will need to be "accepted." However, this "bow to" I have a problem with. There are often things we can do about many issues to help ourselves. Once we sit down on that rocking chair with a resigned sigh of "oh well, have to accept it" without getting our tushies up and trying to do something about whatever it is, we're doomed.

I've known people like that... bad things happen that could have been avoided with a little intervention but they took the "God's will, can't change it" path and sat down to "wait to die." I strongly believe God gave us the intelligence to know that some things CAN be helped/prevented. He gave us specialists and medications and the WISDOM to know that maybe, just maybe, using those things *IS* "God's will."

No rocking chair for this gal! 🚫

I agree to a certain extent for sure. Don't waste time raging at fate. However, I do believe we are never entirely helpless, we can always do something to help ourselves. We have strength when we need it.

But....that IS acceptance. You accept it so that you can learn from it and deal with it.

It should be noted that Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, went to the Cross without any resistance. He accepted God's Will without anger, wishes for vengeance or hate. Whether Jesus was the Son of God or not, he died giving us an example of how to die. He never complained about pain and never showed anger to others who may have contributed to His death.

I am 88 now with medical personnel coming to me almost every day. I simply play my favorite games Civilization VI at Steam.com and chess at Chess.com. I accept death and harbor no anger to anyone. I'll just enjoy every day until I finally go unconsciousness and am taken by Father Death.

Acceptance!! All Bad Things Which Happen to Us Must Be Accepted. you don't have a choice. you can deny something happen, the you would be lying to yourself. If you choose not to acknowledge it, it still happened. You can view the thing that happened through rosy-colored glasses, rainbow sprinkles covered in chocolate, but you must ask yourself when will you stop avoiding the truth and start living with the truth?

Could you please remove that last statement? I'm sitting my rocker, now, as I type this and really don't feel like moving. :)

"And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46, KJV).

If something bad or good happens to us, we need to accept it. Like another poster wrote, ‘we can’t change the past.’ We can learn from it if it was a bad thing and make sure we don’t repeat our mistake. I’ve done that a few times.

I would like to hit the big lottery and remember that.

Acceptance!! All Bad Things Which Happen to Us Must Be Accepted. maybe, but what about people who deny themselves accepting painful circumstances as a psychological block or buffer preventing acknowledgment all together? Is it necessarily wrong to live and believe as a character in your book of identities when indeed as Shakespeare notes The world is a stage and everyone are mere actors in a play. Some are better actors than truth presents them.

God bless you always mitch...

So Jesus made ONE mistake. We can forgive Him that.
Mistake? Jesus doesn't make mistakes. Everything happened the way it was supposed to happen. The scripture was, of course, in reference to your statement that He went to the cross "without any resistance." It wasn't an accurate statement so I tried to clarify it but that doesnt make His questioning a bad thing.... or a mistake. Same thing when asking if the cup could be taken from Him, by the way.

I'm glad to hear that your online games give you pleasure, Mitch. Continue taking good care of yourself!

Grief is a long and winding road on the way to acceptance. Some may even pass away before reaching that sign post. As with success, it is the journey that counts, so relax.

Since I don't believe in a God, any God, I treat this as a mental exercise. It's just maturity really, isn't it? We all know that no-one gets off this planet alive, so death is inevitable. As such, it's best to come to terms with it. I say, find something that brings you joy, and keep on doing it for as long as you can. Bits and pieces of you might fall off, need to be cut out, and pills might make life easier - but the joy remains.

I believe that Jesus Christ is really Father Death. Father Death takes us ALL at the end and does not discriminate. He takes all races, all religions, all economic groups and all nationalities. He is the most democratic god who we ever imagined.

If we think it through, Jesus Christ DIED and became Father Death at that time.

When Father Death takes us, all pain, economic privations, impairments and social problems all disappear.

We really need to start a new Church of Father Death. If anyone is interested,, post back here. Since Church revenue is tax exempt, we could all make millions TAX FREE starting the new Church of Father Death.
