Accidently got locked out

Yes I've done it 3 times... twice I had to call a locksmith... very expensive... the 3rd time I locked myself out ...I remembered the back door was still unlocked, so I had to climb onto the wheelie bin and climb over my 6 foot gate to the back garden , and get in that way....

Unless you have a key hidden, which is not recommended, it’s always best to call a locksmith. In case of an emergency and entry is a must, most police departments are equipped with a window punch that will break most windows, including vehicle windows.

It was 2AM, I was in socks and a tee, I ran out to get something from my car and run back in. It was frigid, well below freezing. And my front door automatically locked me out. I had to get a rock to whack at the window unit of the back door. I beat on that window for a good 15 minutes. I tried breaking the glass, but it was "tornado proof" glass.
What got me was- here I was @2 AM beating on a door and breaking in and nobody called the cops.

Last year, I had the locks to my house changed. The locksmith had only been gone about an hour, when I went outside to get something from my car, carrying my keys with me - but accidentally picked up the old keys. My phone was in the house, so I had to ask a neighbor to call the locksmith, who wasn't very happy to come back after work hours. Fortunately, his rates are very low, and he only charged me $50.

lucky, last time i did it
my son had an extra key and lived about 3 miles away. he has since moved. I use to have a neighbor who was trusted but she moved and gave me key back. looking for another neighbor i could have hold a key.

Twice. I was walking the dog, and since I didn't need the car, I didn't take my keys. The dog then got a house key attached to his collar. Soooo, several years later we were prepared the second time it happened.

Yes at my old house. Had to climb in a basement window. I was younger and thinner back then. Wouldnt try that now. :D
When we moved here I kept the spare key in the dogs house.

Back then the neighbors kids were always forgetting their keys so I told them to hide a set at my house instead of theirs.
Thieves know all the hiding places. This way even if they find the key it wont fit. :D

Yes many times and also our car. We called a locksmith for some and once broke a window and one time climbed through a window that wasn't locked. Now, I carry my key even going outside for a few minutes as does my husband.

Came close to locking myself out a few weeks ago, but some angel told me to take my keys with me before I left the house to walk the dog in the neighborhood.

I usually let myself in through the garage door opener, but I hadn't noticed (or put two and two together) that the garage door opener blinked while pressing the buttons, denoting a weak/failing 9V battery. Upon our return, the garage door opener no workee. But I had my keys and was able to open a door. Pepper, my dog, was relieved since she could then obtain her post-walking "cookie".

Lesson learned about the blinky-blinky and the garage door opener battery.

I have fortunately never gotten locked out of the house. I usually take my keys with me just in case. I got locked out of my car once at work though. The security guard at work was able to lock pick me.

My neighbor got locked out of her apt one night. I offered to let her come in while she waited for the landlord. She wouldn't do it. But I called him for her.

No, not yet!

If it happens and I have my phone, I can call the emergency line at my apartment complex and they will send someone with a key to let me in.

The first time is free, after that it’s $20.00.

The maintenance people that respond live on the property and the fee actually goes to them for their inconvenience.

Our apartment doors have two locks, some of the folks that live here actually leave the door unlocked and only lock the deadbolt when they are inside. If they are intentionally leaving they can lock the door from the outside with a key.

Now that I’m getting older, and a bit loopy, I should probably wear a lanyard around my neck with my phone and keys.

@Aunt Bea how inconvenient can it be if they're already there? I always hate that they charge $15-20 just to unlock a door. Seems ridiculous.
There are over 200 apartments here and people get locked out at all hours of the day and night.

I don’t begrudge them a $20.00 for having to roll out of bed in the middle of the night and get dressed to come and let me in.

The fee also acts as a bit of a reminder to be more careful or have an alternate plan in place if they get locked out.
