It is no longer popular for actors and especially actresses to play dumb parts...they feel above it
and they probably think it is demeaning. But it is not, I think. As an actor said, it takes a smart
actress to play a dumb part. Its not easy. Great timing, right voice. Lucille Ball, Gracie Allen, Eva Gabor, 3 examples.
I bet The Three Stooges were really smart. It's all an act. I miss this goofy humor.

I also miss someone Male or Female playing the part of someone dumb. I loved watching All in the family with Archie Bunker's wife Edith playing a dummy. It made the show a hit.
