I find myself watching the news to see these horrible news stories. One is worse than the next. I guess there is no "Good News" channel. Seriously, though, I should start watching my Netflix shows of ..murders...etc. Can't seem to get away from it. Anyone else relate?

I find myself watching the news less and less. We have stopped getting a newspaper and the TV is very repetitious. I can't be bothered.

My younger days when I was working full time and overtime, and busy with so many other things, I rarely watched the news. I'd catch the local news in the evening when I was cooking or eating supper...no cable TV back then either.

Driving to and from work, I usually was listening to music on the radio, not AM stations with talk and news. It was simpler and more peaceful that way. I'm far from a news hound now, but I do watch parts of the news on various channels throughout the day, and there's not much in the way of cheerful stuff, that's for sure.

Then, like Manatee said, it's so repetitive. I don't mind hearing the story once or twice and any updates to it, but over and over and over just is a bit too much. The 24/7 news these days has to be filled with something, so I guess they have no choice but to repeat everything and add endless opinion and speculation.

I guess it's a good idea to limit the news shows.

Yes, and they do add endless opinions and speculations on the cable news especially. It is too much to keep watching it, I agree. I'm going to find other things to do.

I've been watching the news more. I've never seen such trouble in our government since Watergate. It's important to stay informed. I'm not addicted, but I am interested in what others who are better informed than I am have to say about this situation.

I have been watching it more, too, but for me too much. I am informed well now..lol..Some of it is nonsensical and some makes sense to me. Yes, there is much going on in Washington DC. :thanks:

I like ABC news and David Meir, but it seems lately that the news is more and more like a grocery store tabloid. Big headlines and not much real news. "BREAKING NEWS" right after 8 minutes of commercials.
I know what you mean about Breaking News! Everything now is breaking news.

I read all the news every morning and from many news sources to get the full picture. I'm not addicted to it, in fact I'm sick of it but don't want to put my head in the sand and not know what's going on.

Ive started binge watching Netflix and Amazon video...I really enjoyed "Call the Midwife" and "The Crown"...I'm on a British kick it seems.

I watch less and less. If you look at national news we're either in Heaven or Hell, depending which channel you prefer. The earth is round or it is flat - - -take your choice. If you're not depressed enough with the national news, you can switch to a local broadcast and find out how many rapes, murders, fires, and fatal car crashes, have taken place in your area. Just a barrel of fun to start the day.:(

I tend to stick with sports and old movies. Just watched "Key Largo" yesterday. Hadn't seen it in years and still enjoyed it.

Thanks for the tips on Call the Midwife and The Crown. I have watched quite a few Netflix shows. I especially liked Shameless and Breaking Bad.

You got it, the news is depressing. Good idea to watch the sports and movies. I like to watch basketball and can't wait till the season starts again. Not sure if I've see Key Largo but I'll keep it in mind.

Breaking Bad was good, I'll check out Shameless. Another good one was the "Black Mirror" series...kind of weird though but interesting.

Have you seen Weeds? It was pretty funny and I binge watched it. I have made a note of Black Mirror. I was looking for a new one to watch. Thanks! ;)

No, haven't seen Weeds...will take a look. Between forums and binge watching I won't have time for anything else...Like cleaning. :)
I know what you mean. I try to keep up with the cleaning but some things never seem to get done..like laundry.

Especially if you have pets...I see dog hair in places he never even goes, it must transfer from my body. Also have laundry for Pickles...all his blankets!

Truth is I'm a neat freak and I hate cleaning so it becomes a problem. :)

I also see that im going off topic...a problem Ive had in the past and I'm trying not to do now...but it is your post. :)

I do keep up with the news, almost as a ritual. My life is more and more about rituals. To deal with depression I listen to my music, use diffusers with essential oils (aromatherapy), and read something that takes me into stories that I enjoy. I have videos I watch also.

I listen to music a lot, it helps me too. Aromatherapy is a good thing, too!

For those who (like me) liked Breaking Bad, check out Better Call Saul. It's what they call a prequel, showing the evolution of Jimmy, a crooked lawyer (still played by the wonderful Bob Odenkirk) into the character who has renamed himself Saul. It's lighter than Breaking Bad, much of it very funny. He is a strangely likable con man, a real charmer, an impossible human being with a devoted, very decent girlfriend.

If you get Netflix, try Last Tango in Halifax. I loved that series!

And the Fargo series is very good. That's on the FX channel. Many of the streaming series are way better than anything on network TV, with a few exceptions.
Another good one on Netflix is The Killing, and of course House of Cards.

Just for laughs, I'm rewatching the entire series The Office (American version). It's still hilarious.

I watch the 5 o'clock and the 11 o'clock news. We no longer get a newspaper. I enjoyed reading those, but both local ones shrunk to almost nothing.
I DC'd satellite TV over a year ago and switched to antenna, plus prime, Netflix, Acorn, HBO and Starz. I don't watch much news on them. I watch a lot of documentaries and I'm finishing up Game of Thrones. Also have watched a lot of OPB series.

With all the stuff that's been going on since Charlottesville, I've been watching the news a lot more.

I watched a lot at first when it happened but now am getting tired of them repeating everything over and over and over.
