Affordable dental care information

Does anyone know anything about dental colleges? I just came from one for information. I just need a set of partial back dentures. They want to start billing right away ($260) just to look at my teeth, then bill me for every subsequent visit and they don't know how many I'll need. That doesn't sound affordable at all and I can easily spend close to $1,000 or more. Plus they said no guarantee on quality in the fine print.

I know nothing at all about dental colleges... *but* since they're wanting maybe as much as a grand, have you compared prices with a place like Aspen Dental (not sure if that's nationwide) or a local dentist? Maybe what you need would be a lot more there, but I don't think I'd just accept a price because it's a college doing dental work.

Yes, I am in the process of researching.

Years ago I went to Case dental school for a bad tooth, while it's less exspensive than a regular dentist it was a big hassle.

First they examine you, create a procedure plan which they insist you comply with and have you sign a contract. Once you start going it's ends up being a lot of trips because they never accomplish much during each appointment, things a seasoned dentist accomplishes in one appointment may take three appointments at the clinic.

During the time I went I had two different students, the first one was good but the second one struggled and caused me a world of hurt. I decided it wasn't worth the savings and returned to a regular dentist.

I think it depends on what you need done and the quality of the student you get, the savings certainly makes it worth looking into.

Going to a dental college would be a 120 mile round trip for me. I've always heard they work on a first come, first serve basis and be prepared for long waits.
