After it all ends, would you hire a person convicted of looting?

I'm chuckling at the idea that "No business would hire a thief." Remember, Barry Minkow had a job right out of prison. Jim Bakker also has a job. Oh, excuse me; Reverend Jim Bakker. Those two are among the biggest thieves & con artists who ever lived.

I worked in retail firearms for several years. One of my co-workers (Vernon) was a "former" cocaine addict. (who knows what other drugs he used).
I've always gotten along with co-workers, but I had problems with him & after several incidents, I talked to the owner. She didn't want to hear anything negative about him, & she told me what a devoted employee he was so she brushed me off. I thought, "Well.....OK, it's not my store; it's hers." (as a drug addict, he wasn't even allowed to be around firearms).
A few weeks later, I heard the owner crying in her office. I asked her what was wrong. She said, "Vernon embezzled over $200,000 from us."
I remember thinking, "Well, stupidity & denial have a price."

We are talking about looters not thieves. There is a difference.

beg to differ sorry...Looters are most definitely Thieves..even the dictionary says so...

noun
noun: looter; plural noun: looters
  1. a person who steals goods, typically during a war or riot.
"last summer's riots saw thousands of businesses ransacked by looters"
Yes, that is the definition of a looter. A looter steals. A thief steals. But a thief is not considered a looter, unless the thief steals during a war or a riot. Then the thief is a looter. The thread is talking about looters.

This maybe the only time on the forum that I claim to be right, but I am. 😳

Aneeda...a thief isn't necessarily a looter, but a looter is most definitely a thief!!!

Looters can be bucketed as a hoodlum. Hoodlums steal and run around causing mayhem in a civil society. Thugs to me are those that beat up and gang up on people to cause harm.

A looter can be all of the combination of hoodlums and a Thugs.

Its a crying shame what our generation fought for, made and developed is being decimated by these criminals.
And here we are spat on as the boomer generation thats sh*t.

But everyone has a right to redemption and genuine change of heart from a developing brain. And God does forgive.

Yes, God does forgive, luckily for all of us.

If there was an equally suitable candidate for the job who had no record, I probably would not but if I did hire hire him, I would be very careful about what job is given.

Actions have consequences. Everyone must learn that although learning comes too late for some.

It’s unfair that I can’t grow any younger
Oh, Aneeda…You can't do that to yourself....
I was so mad today....We had a very bad storm....It was fast moving..So I go out to get all the furniture in the shed...
While I was taking one of the tables and the unbrella...The wind almost knocked me down....Then the table slamed down on the
patio and glass went every where....So that was my day trying to get rid of glass...My husband couldn't help me...he can't walk a lot
still going to Doctor's....I called my son....cause he has a doggie and I wanted him to know not to bring the dog cause there is glass
in the backyard....And so on and so on....(I had to tell someone or I'll be talking to myself all night) And in my sleep...
Be well, Aneeda….Hang in there....

Broken glass is the worst! I’m sorry you had such a bad day. We’ve had wind storms for three days in a row but no rain. I so wish it would rain.

How you're treated after committing a crime seems to be swayed by the enormity of said crime. Steal a little and it seems to be with you forever......steal in epic proportions and the minute you're out of your country club prison, you're back in business or on the lecture circuit.

Back to the original question: If I had a choice between hiring someone with a clean record and someone who had been found guilty of a crime, I would definitely not have a hard time making a choice. I know we have no idea what lurks in the soul of anyone, but the convicted looter has shown his colors. I'll take a chance on the other applicant.

I don't think a conviction for looting is something to be proud. Come on, it's not prostitution, armed robbery, or murder. Looting is something that you can overcome, but it would be better if you didn't need to.

Tossing prostitution in with armed robbery or murder seems to be a bit of a stretch don't you think. None of these crimes are anything to be proud of, but I don't think that prostitution belongs in this particular "ballpark."

Wait, what? You equate prostitution with armed robbery or murder? Do you know that in many places the people who pay prostitutes are arrested and not the prostitute themselves who are the victims of multiple crimes.

Do have any ideal how offensive and, yes, disgusting your words are? 🤮. Well, I just learned something about you that I can’t unlearn. Ugh

Pecos, Agree completely with you about prostitution. Sex is a natural physical urge of the mortal body. Prostitution is necessary for society, in my opinion as it prevents rapes and ruthless crimes.

Maybe, as far as sexual need. But I heard an interesting talk by a psychologist who said "Rape has little to do with sex; it has more to do with power, control, being a misogynist & the need to hurt a woman."

You may be right. I'm open to changing my view. I was thinking only of sexual needs, which can be quite intense, not diviant behaviors.

I havn't posted in awhile, but hire known looters? Never...I agree with Ellis, we are not talking about peaceful protestors or those gentle souls misguided by Antifa's goal to destory the country, which is in such fashion these days. Why am I even posting. I don't know where to start. Looters are putting businesses owners out of jobs. How can these questions even be asked with the no politic rule....ok, back to my cave go I.

Your comment is very valid and I agree with your view of sexual needs vs criminal behavior.

In my response to fuzzybuddy, I was thinking of all the girls and young women who are forced into prostitution and then find themselves arrested and jailed when they should have been helped much earlier. I was shocked to learn how many young women are kidnapped or illegally brought into this country and then transited though this area heading North. Three of our local hotels have been charged with knowingly participating in the sex traffic that goes on here in Bible Belt South Carolina.

Exactly!
