Age 90 Is the Kiss of Death!

At 90 years old only 1 out of 5 American men are still alive. At 95 years old only 1 out of 200 men are still alive. I am now at age 90 and are in a strange position with death in my near future. No doctor can do anything about old age.

It is so bad that my Geriatrician offered me a "chance" to stop eating and drinking and die in 2 to 3 weeks. He said he would be "by my side" and advise me every day on what comes next.

I can see why the Spanish explorer, Ponce deLeon, spent so much time searching for the "Fountain of Youth." Too bad he never found it.

Hard for me to believe even 1 in 5 American men live to 90. I think your run is more exceptional than that. I’d count myself very lucky to do the same. 72 is old enough to see the downward side of the parabola steepening. My wife who is 82 has already outlived her very healthy living mother, but her father made it to 96 so she probably won’t make it that far with the pack of conditions she is fending off.

89 and no end in sight ... exercise, healthy food, nutritional supplements, great family life, and I'll keep my driving license till 100+

Walking 1 - 2 hours a day; the 3 Boxers are mine, and I dog-sit the Beagle

Heck If I make it to 90, the lord lets me do what I need to do / have to do,
I good! I hope I disappear overnight. Don't want no young thing changing
my depends and washing on my ----'s

I just noticed a Football player, a Safety, New England Patriots, won a super bowl, and had the ring.
He just past at 51 years old. Thas so sad. How hard that young man worked to do his jobs.

Obviously youre one out of the five. So are you bragging or are you complaining. :D
How old is that doctor anyways? Are you sure he doesnt have dementia?

JMO. If youre too focused on your death, then you cant enjoy your life.
But what I know. Im only 75. :D

It's sad to read about your late husband's story. But sometimes we just have to let things go. There are young people died of cancer too, their lives were too short, but...
Yes, that's true, ... a sad story, but my late husband didn't expect to leave on this Earth barely at age 75. His both parents outlived him, so he might expect to live around at age, .... probably around at age 78 or a bit more as seeing the modern tech. medical accesses.
However, he was totally shut-down when Hospice care saw him 'not able sustain his life, ... his cancer started to ravage all over his body. The pain was so intense that he could't hold my hand when I asked him to keep holding my hand.
Since his passing, I have been keeping his resting place with both live and artificial flowers to at least alleviate the pain he suffered.

By the way, I was in Vitas Hospice for 3 weeks in October, 2018. My doctor, who referred me to them, thought I would die in HER OFFICE within 1 hour. She told me to go right to the hospital after updating my will. She thought I would die very soon from blood clots being spun off from my heart. If one of those had blocked my carotid arteries or hit my brain, death would have been sudden. That is still possible for me.

Fortunately for me I'm STILL ALIVE and playing my favorite war game, Civilization VI, for 5 to 7 hours every day. By the way, that activity immunizes me against dementia. Warning, do NOT play Civilization VII since it is really a DOWNGRADE from Civilization VI. In addition to having fun conquering the world and killing MILLIONS in that Civilization VI, I'm STILL alive at age 90. I especially like hearing the screams of the little people below as my nukes destroy their cities.

Because you have no cancer, you may live until all organs shut-down.
In my late husband's case, there was very aggressive cancer, 'lung cancer(small-cell, non-smoker lung cancer) which mestasized all over the body. his brain was very first, second around his spine.
He got a surgery in one of best cancer institutes, but it didn't help him keep alive.
Hospice care, ... I know, but not facilitated to his needs.
After his dx'ed, I posted some in the Cancer-forum to learn and deal with his cancer, but in the end, there was much to do with.
I think that Cancer is one of deadliest diseases and survival rate is less as age over 70 or 75.
His mother had a breast cancer in her 50's, but she lived into her 80's. Just 'luck' might play, but I have no clue.
Just in case, .... tell your wife that there are some forms to fill-out and keep busy 'sewing.'
After my late husband's passing, I needed to run around here and there to report his death and filled-out forms. That sounds easy, but it will not be easy to do when she reaches over at age 80-85.

Maybe you should contact the makers of that game, explain you situation and ask that they make you a permanent character in the game.

You know you evil B-Tard Mitch! I can understand planting Carrots for Bunnies, Picking walnuts for Squirrels,
Getting 3 dogs, 5 cats, pushing up daisies, that sort of thing. ... :ROFLMAO: ...

I was the navy hospital wounded in 1970, I got pneumonia, from being in the bed so long, I woke up , I was parked in ice, the navy chaplain, was giving me the Last rights, they said they called my mom. In 1980 a doctor gave me six months to live, my work , retired me at age 32, after their doctor confirmed it, I went home, set around the house, waiting to die, got tired of that, stared helping other Veterans. Find something that you can enjoy doing, I hurt every day , but I enjoy my grandchildren, taking one to dinner next week, still doing Veterans stuff, God bless you, have a good day.

Try to Enjoy the life on this Earth until all organs shut-down.
I understand it's very hard to do, ... but try it!
Like my late husband, at age 75 with terminal cancer, all medical accesses might be to shut-down on you, keep trying to enjoy your hobby, 'Chess' that is an excellent hobby you possess.
As for the Will, you need to get it through a lawyer to make 'official,' unless all parties, 'your wife, adult children and the others are in good relationship. My late husband wrote 'his Will' on his own, but the court didn't take it.(but depend on state to state). Luckily, we are all amicable and civil not to argue about.
Also, all utility bills must be your and your wife names, otherwise your wife has a difficult time to change and pay the bill which happened to me, because one of utilities bills was only my late husband's name and took a year to change and paying the bill. In the meantime, I needed several telephone calls and e-mails that was very hard on my nerve and physical, too.
All other things, you need to discuss with your wife, now.
You sound still in good spirit despite challenging time you're facing.
This solely depends on my experience after he left us.
