"Age Is Just a Number" Says 104 Year Old Skydiver... You Go, Dorothy!

OH NO!!:cry: I just wanted to do follow-up research on Dorothy and she died days after her jump earlier this month. How very sad. Oh I wish I'd know the whole story ... sure she was very old, but did the jump contribute? I'll keep snooping around... my smile was sure wiped away fast!

It's a good way to go when you're 104. You get in the headlines and you check out soon afterwards. Life didn't owe you a thing if you lived to be that old.

She lived her life on her terms and apparently, this was her desire. Good for her!
Question...Does anyone/everyone here really want to live into their 100S??? The answer of course may depend on the condition of one's health but even if in good health for one's age, I wonder if all the little nuisance characteristics that come with age are worth living that long..or am I missing something??

My dad lived to be 90. he spent his last 6 years in a home which he hated. I don't want to face the same fate. People seem to think that losing your life earlier in life is a tragedy. It's not for the person who died. They enjoyed their life up until the end.

The story goes that when Johnny Carson asked George Burns, "Who wants to live to be 100?" And George answered "Someone who's 99!" You're right... health would have a lot to do with it. For me it wouldn't be whether or not I'd want to see 100... more like the pure horror of having to bury everyone I ever loved.

In the widow support group I was in, a woman told the story that when her first husband died, her mother married again. When the 2nd husband died, she said enough burying husbands and she lived out her life on her own.

So true ..I have seen many friends and acquaintances die and then we also see public figures people we have heard about all our lives pass away

I agree..my late husband spent his last 9 months in a SNF
I visited almost every day..what a nightmare. When he finally passed I knew it was his wish..

I hate that "age is just a number" stuff. It's like the amount in your checking account is just a number. There's a hell of a difference if your bank account has lots of zeroes at the end of the balance. than at the beginning. The same with age. It's not the number of years you have been bouncing around, but the quality of your health during that time. I'm 77, if age is just a number, that means I could still climb mountains, according to that stupid saying. But which high, rocky mountain is wheelchair assessable? Yes. as one ages, one should live life to the best of their physical abilities. But, the idea that aging is all in your head is how the young think of aging, and is not reality.

Ya know, fuzzybuddy, I have to agree. I never liked that either because it doesn't make sense to me. Of course it's just a number, but the statement doesn't hold any meaning. Now the one I've disliked even more is "you're as old as you feel" as if playing with a doll and saying boys have cooties is going to make me feel like a kid. Nope, I'm 65 and feel 85 some days and 35 others... but that doesn't make me those ages. :giggle: @fuzzybuddy
