Age yourself with a store that no longer exists.

Oh yeah. Gemco. Great store!
Do you remember when you had to have a Gemco Card? That's when I stopped shopping there. You probly only had to have it to get a certain sale price, but I didn't pay attention, I just switched to Kmart. And not long after that, Gemco went under.

That's how it happened in Calif, anyway. And now we have membership stores all over the place, Sam's Club and Costco being the first, I think. They've been the most successful at it, it seems.

Robert Hall's brought back memories. That's where I got my first suit- it was only for church and funerals. :)
It was a "rite of passage" for young males.....the trip to Robert Hall for your first suit. Like you said, funerals, weddings, Confirmations, graduation. Or when, at last, you outgrew your older brother's old suit.

My late husband told me once that suits in his family (11 kids) were passed down to the next boy. He said he got his first "new" suit for high school graduation....at Robert Hall of course.

Opened in 1887 Pellew and Moore was one of Broken Hill's iconic department stores.

From Jumbo the Christmas Elephant to the Soda Fountain - what are your memories of the Peoples Drapers

I believe it closed in the late 1970’ s ( when I was in my mid 20’s ) after trading for 52 years ..it sold drapery / clothing …then Out the back of the store across a large lane it had a furniture store
I Cleary remember it having a system where you could buy goods including clothing and pay a bit off the account each payday

I shopped there for baby stuff …cloth nappies …:)
