AirbnB for $3000 a night

Ron's daughter booked a $2,000 a night 21,000 square foot mansion for her destination wedding. 3400 acres, 14 bedrooms, tennis court, pool, two spas both indoors, volley ball court, indoor racket ball court, billiards, darts, weight room...every possible luxury.

It was a small wedding and everyone stayed onsite for the weekend. It was an amazing experience!

A $100 hotel room will likely be clean and have minimal amenities. Hardly luxurious. Nothing at all like the Airbnb from your link or the one Ronni described.
I was born poor and am just financially comfortable now. I've never craved for luxury and being served and coddled. I once went to a top notch restaurant and the three waiters in tux serving us and hanging nearby just made me nervous and uncomfortable. Everyone is different, to me cleanliness and safety are needs, luxury is in the bottom of wants. One thing for sure, I would be miserable if I were famous or a royal and having to live in a fishbowl.

We traveled from home in South Australia to the Gold Coast in Queensland 2.150 km each way
during winter, ( July ~ Sept ) we stayed in air B&B three nights each way ( was way for 8 weeks )
its The first time we have we have used the service.
We found most of them were not as clean or had the facilities they claimed to have, mind you i fully agree you get what you pay for so next time I will book a motel at least you have full privacy to have a shower

This sounds like a lovely idea!

Think I may have posted this link to the 1720 house in Martha's Vineyard, where we rented from Willam Randolph Hearst's niece, for $90/mo., back in the late 1950's, early 1960's. We could have bought for $30,000, but who had $30,000?
The 1720's House
Anyway, it's now a BnB... and you can rent the entire house for a whole week in August, for only $8400.00
We lived there for a year before we found 2 secret rooms, which were probably a part of the underground railroad.... MV was a main stop for runaway slaves in the mearly to mid 19th century

Wealth has never impressed me. I started my travels in the early 70s & stayed in Youth Hostels in Europe. Since those days I have travelled over many countries in the world; staying mostly in hotels. For the last several years we have used Air B & B in Mexico, Italy, Uk, Spain, Portuagal & several countries in Africa. I don't relish "snob appeal" to pay a small fortunate for staying in some villa with 24 bedrooms & 28 bathrooms for 1 or 2 nights. My longest trip was 8.5 months travelling around the world. I don't believe in wasting your money because there are so many poor people in this world. I have read in a current National Geographic that Bill Gates & his good wife, Melinda, are giving away their billions because they want to do some good in this world & leave this planet a better place than when they found it. They are smart enough to know that you can't take it with you when you go! Spending $3,000/night on an Air B & B proves what? You are rich or you are stupid. You tell me. Showing that you have money only brings envy & hatred your way; never respect!

Sometimes, when we stay for a few days in NYC, we will stay at the Plaza and rent a suite for between $1400-1800.00 per night. We do this like every other year. On just an overnight, we will do a room at $6-800.00 per night. Both rates, room or suite, include a personal butler. Sometimes you just have to indulge yourself to the finer things in life.

I like the idea of renting the mansion, but tell me, are we permitted to invite others to fill the bedrooms at no additional costs?

No, I am not stupid. We enjoy the luxuries in life from time to time and do not advertise it to our friends. We don’t go into debt to do it. It’s just fun to be able to live life to the fullest because we can afford to do it.

I don’t know of anyone that hates or envies me. Like I said, what we do is our business and we keep it to ourselves.

There are many stories of people dying where all the neighbours though they were poor. Later, it was revealed that the person had a million in the bank. If you are rich, keep it to yourself. Advertising your wealth will bring all the local muggers, killers & crow-bar artists running to your house. It's no fun living always looking over your shoulder. Best to plead poverty like the majority of this planet' otherwise you'll have to hire a bunch of security toughts like Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson did. Now, how long did those 2 guys live?

@Packerjohn allot who brag about their wealth live a miserable life outside of the limelight
and often have ill heath and or live on anti depressants/ prescription drugs

I’ve known wealthy people who lead extremely lonely/ miserable ☹ Lives

I’d be the last to brag about staying in a $3000 a nite accommodation I personally could think of better things to spend my money on

Now, THAT is going too far! I have no doubts in my mind that those people were mentally unstable. Who did they plan leaving it to?

The ideal is to live within your means, not to hoard the money and deprive yourself of a decent lifestyle. And for what, so that you can leave to others or the government? I read about a very rich guy that would dress in tattered and frayed clothes and the only money he spent was to buy breakfast at a diner every morning and chat with other geezers. People would give him clothes and food and when he died they found out he was a millionaire. What a waste of a life to deprive himself like that. You don't have to live in luxury if you're wealthy, but you can at least have a decent house and car and clothes and not accept charities from well meaning people.

He, He! The sad thing is that I have a brother like the guy you are talking about. He is a mystery to me but I think something is wrong with their brain. Money is meant to be spent. It's useless in the coffin!

It's an old but very true adage, "A Fool & His Money are Quickly Parted"

We are renting a 4500 SF fabulous river-front house for a week for our entire family. 7 BR, 9 BA. It will be us, our three kids and their spouses, and our two grandchildren.

As the saying goes, YOLO. You only live once. We can afford it.

If not now, when? There are no pockets in a shroud...

Why presume that people who rent very pricey accommodations are unable to afford them? Feels like the green-eyed monster at work.
I wrote about four or five replies to this post, but decided to just let it pass. However, what's a person supposed to do if they have been fortunate in life to have inherited the family's wealth and both you and your spouse both have worked and made six figures most of your life? It's hard to hide it and it's not fair to not be able to enjoy your money. Isn't that why we save during our working years, so that when we retire, we can enjoy our time left here on earth and have the money to do the things we couldn't when we had to work?

This is a god thread for me to air some of my laundry. Yes, we have money, but who doesn’t? Maybe we have a little more than some others, so what? But, just like the old saying, “Money can’t buy happiness” I find it to be very true. My only living relative in this area is my sister, who I very seldom see due to her psychiatric illness.

Being away from home so much during my working years kept me from making friends; close friends. I have no one to confide in. Of course, my wife is always here, but just like a woman needs another woman to talk to, so does a man need another man to talk to. There are things that each sex feels more comfortable with when discussing certain things that go on in our life. My only outlet is to speak to my Therapist and I have to pay him. Well, the insurance company does anyway.

So, even though we are financially well off, it doesn’t replace the closeness of having a best friend. I remember having my best friend in high school. We shared everything that went on in our life with each other. It hardly ever solved anything, but we felt better after talking about it.

Don’t ever take having your friend for granted. You can also and probably are someone’s best friend. Someone that you can share secrets with, seek advice or just rant to. Someone that won’t laugh at you when you fail at something, but will laugh with you at your corny jokes. There use to be an old joke that went something like: What’s the difference between a friend and a best friend? A friend is someone who will visit you in jail. A best friend is someone who will go to jail with you. Or, something like that.

Friends are forever! Money is not.

You can't believe Cat how much I agree with you!

The only person in a classy restaurant that bothers me is the person that sweeps the crumbs off the table. That guy kind of creeps me out. Oh, and the other waiter that keeps refilling the water glass. I take one or two sips out of the glass and there he is. It’s like he’s lurking in the shadows waiting for me to take a drink of water.

We ate at a restaurant in NYC that was recommended by one of my wife’s colleagues. They had a waiter/waitress for everything. I counted eight pieces of silverware and four different glasses, plus a cup and saucer, not to mention, two plates; one on top of the other and a bowl, plus three napkins. I was totally confused. It was a good thing we had a big table.

We went to see “Cats” in the early 80’s and after the show was over, we grabbed a cab and went to the Rum House in Times Squares for a quick drink before going to Sardi’s for a late dinner. We heard that the cast usually went there after the show. On that night, no one from the show came in, but the food was great, especially my spinach cannelloni. It’s a fun place to eat. The wait staff is down to earth.

I could always be your brother from another mother. :sneaky:

In my experience, it seems men have a harder time making friends than women. I have no clue why or if it's actually true.
