Airliner jet hits/kills a pedestrian on a Denver airport runway during takeoff

A Frontier Airlines plane hit a pedestrian who got on to a runway during a takeoff at the Denver airport. The person killed was a pedestrian trespasser who climbed a fence to get on airport property. Probably hit by or sucked into an engine after reports of blood seen on one of them.

The jet stopped and did an immediate emergency evacuation of the plane

Person fatally struck by Frontier aircraft at Denver International after fence breach

Identity of person killed not available yet.

The question is why. Did they want to work their way to the terminals or sneak onto another plane? I can't picture kids just fooling around on this. Someone did that with purpose
 
This person that scaled a fence and ran onto a runway as a plane was departing is about as dumb as they come.
It’s possible that the intruder may have been sucked into the engine. On takeoff, the plane was probably set at full thrust.
That’s like putting a steak into a meat grinder.

I hope there is more to this story.
 
Since the engines did the trespasser in I wonder if they were standing on the side of runway waiting for the plane to pass although seeing the speed and hearing the noise most would flee or duck.

Kind of elaborate for a suicide driving to an airport, climbing a fence and getting on a runway.

Have to wonder what was in line of sight of the trespasser when hit. If not a suicide where were they going?

Au contraire, there are so crazy people out there.

Know how many people have died of "subway surfing" (which is climbing on top of metro trains and riding the roof) in New York thus far? 16. More were only injured. People do weird stuff.

Suicide by plane perhaps?
 
The trespasser not only killed themselves they caused over a dozen injured passengers with some going to a hospital along with an engine fire. That is ignorant even if a suicide. But I'm now seeing reports the pilots reported a pedestrian walking on the runway?

Most likely, the engine was also damaged and will be scrapped. This is a horrible thing. Some parts may be salvaged, but doubtful.

Runway 17L is about 12,000 feet long, so the pilot probably used the auto throttles. I have no idea what the speed was or how full the plane was when he met the person on the runway.

At 150 mph, the plane was fairly far down the runway and close to taking off. The plane was probably close to the end of the runway by the time the pilot was able to stop the plane.
 
the fence did not look easy to climb over...
he was casually walking in the thermal video. I've seen people trying to cross street with cars a block or 2 away at a faster pace. suicide is possible without involving others. pilots and even passengers will not forget this.

I watched video of passengers exiting ... now for those who fly what is the rule in an emergency evacuate not open the overheard bins and take your luggage etc... but that is what happened. a commentator even said they could charge passenger for failing to listen to the crew when evacuating. it is clear on video those sliding down emergency slide with their carry ons
 
It’s sad but it highlights just how easy it would be for a terrorist to gain access to a high dollar target like an airport, petroleum pipeline, municipal water treatment plant, etc…

It feels like much of the work and money is being spent to create the illusion of safety and security for the general public.
 
Of course it was a suicide, who scales a huge fence and walks into the path of a on coming plane....
I have never heard of anyone doing that for kicks.
